I got a lot of folders and .rar/.zip files that are identical. The folders are basically just extracted from the archives. I often have 2 or more copies of the same file/folder; the folder and the .rar/.zip file.

Most software I have tried only show me the files(example123.rar), they ignore folders(example123) with same names as the files. Is there any software that finds duplicate files and folders by name?

You could see if just doing a search Window's(if you're using Windows, of course) search will suit your needs.

    What OS do you have?

I am using windows XP. How would I do a search for duplicate files and folders?

    Well, I somewhat misunderstood you.

While you can't do a search for any file/folder that has a duplicate, you can search for a particular name which will show all duplicates of that particular name.

You could also search for all files of a particular type. For example, you could search for all .zip files. Sort them alphabetically, and you would be able to spot duplicates pretty easily, as they'd be right next to eachother.

Not exaclty what you're looking for. Sorry I misunderstood. But to do a search you can just go to Start>My Computer. At the top there should be a button called "Search." After you click that, on the left panel, you'll have a search box as well as a variety of options, like where to search and what filetypes to search for. You could set it to search all files and folders and then put in a name, or use a wildcard like *.zip to list all zip files.

Have you tried any of the duplicate elimination freeware programs available here at majorgeek? I have DupKiller and/or Easy Duplicate Finder installed, and they've been okay - it takes a while to go over and delete all those dups though because you need to be careful not to delete the wrong files/folders...

I'm looking for both the .zip and it's extracted folder counterpart. I have tried both DupKiller and Easy Duplicate Finder, they seem to only find duplicate files.

I tried sorting files alphabetically but it always separates the list into two parts, folders from a-z and files from a-z, if only it would just sort them all together from a-z, that would solve my problem.

    Thanks for the help.
