What program can I use to find and delete duplicates in 2 different USB jump drives. Need something like the old XTreeGold, I guess. Bazza

Bump. Looks like I've gotta google it.:D I know I have a reference in an old PC Mag, so will have to go through those as well. Baz
PS: Both jumpdrives are plugged in, at the same time, on adjacent USB ports. Baz

Hmmm...is it at all possible to script a solution? If these drives appear in windows as normal drives, you should be able to use a simple batch file to do it.

Thanks, M_M. What I'm trying to get is a program that will list out the contents of both drives, side by side, in separate windows if need be, so I can delete one copy of one file if they appear on both drives. Hope I made myself clear. Don't want to synchronise both drives as there isn't room. Bazza

If these drives appear as (for example) g: and h: in my computer/windows explorer, it should be possible to do this.

Do you know anything about writing batch files or VBScripts, dude?

    Thanks again, M_M.
They appear as "Removable Disk E" and "Removable Disk F" in Explorer.
No, I am not good at batch files, or VBScripts.
Hold off for a while while I search my old PC mags.
I know there is an article in one of them. Bazza

Well, I found the article after a bit of searching.

A lot of the programs suggested were based on the original Norton’s Commander, (NC). In fact, you could still buy Nortons Commander (as at early 2003), even though Symantec don’t want to know about it.

    2 sources for NC are/were, www.pugh.co.uk/Products/Symantec/Norton%20Commandee%202.htm
(This version, for sale, to UK schools)

    and www.softgallery.com/fiche.html?REF=1501
(This is available from Germany, presumably in English).

I ended up using 2xExplorer, as the name suggests, 2 panels side by side, in a Windows Explorer fashion, from http://netez.com/2xExplorer.

At first trial, I could only get it to list program names (not size and date created), side by side. It will span 2 different physical drives, or 2 different folders, and enables you to move files between the 2 panes. Lots of other capabilities apparently, but you’ve go to read the help files for best results. It did what I wanted, however, at first attempt.

Other alternatives listed, (not tried by me), are:

    Commander, http://meesoft.logicnet.dk/Commander.
Shamelessly based on NC, according to the article I read.
Gives the option of 2 panels, or 1 panel + a view of the document you are looking at, or 1 panel and a picture, you may want to view.

    Gyula’s navigator, www.wanari.com.
Similar to Commander, above, but has more features, according to the article.

    A43 File Management Utility, www.shawneelink.net/~bgmiller.
Not recommended as an all-purpose file manager, but great for zipping through, (and managing), zipped files, apparently. It will add, delete, copy and revise text, inside zipped files. May be just what you are after, if you archive lots of stuff.

    NDIR, from http://home.attbi.com.
It may look like 1990, but it’s small, and free.

As I mentioned, earlier, I only tried 2xExplorer.
All the above are/were free, except NC (of course).

Article was by “Wicked Wanda”, Australia’s Internet directory, monthly magazine, July 2003 edition, pp 41-43. Magazine is now sadly defunct. Bazza

Turbo Navigator, see previous post, looks the best. I have installed it, and it looks great.

It shows Folders (directories), files, sizes, attributes, dates on both panels. Bazza
