   I don't use it a whole lot, but just checked recently to use the search capability, and it's gone! Is there a way I can get this back into my start menu? Thanks!

   IF XP and you use and tweaking apps like TweakXP as it has Hide Search, which makes the search option go missing ?
   
   or possibly Kellys Corners reg fix to place/restore the search option to the start menu may work http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm ( line 166 )

   windows XP i presume?
   right click on your START menu and select properties
   choose start menu (not classic start menu) and click customize, there you'll find 'search'
