Find IP in DOS mode....?

I have a Win98 machine that keeps getting a boot disk error. I have a feeling that the HD is going out, so I am replacing it. I am, however, able to boot to a command prompt with a floppy, but how do I find out the IP address from this PC? I tried running ipconfig and winipcfg, but both of them say that it cannot be run in DOS mode, which I am "ASSuming" that it has something to do with the TCP/IP not loaded. IS there a way to find out the IP from DOS mode? Thanks!

 

if you boot to dos, then you don't have an IP.

 

Thanks for the reply, and I understand what you are saying, but is there a way to find out what my IP was before the system crashed? I just need to transfer the original IP to the new HD, and I don't know how to go about doing that. If I hook up my old HD as a slave and boot to windows, run a command prompt, and ipconfig the D:, would that work?

what type of internet connection do you have and why is it important to retrieve your IP address?

 

I work for a school district and we have a T1, unfortunately the IP number was never recorded when the PC was set up and I would like to use the existing IP since it has never caused any conflicts, and we ran out of IPs a while back and I just don't want to cause a conflict by plugging a random number in.
