We have a Large LAN and one of the policies is no routers. I recently stumbled accross serveral Wireless networks while walking around. They have to be on LAN but the MAC addresses I pulled from the routers doesn't match any of the MAC addresses on any of the switches or on the DHCP server. I would like to track these routers down.

Is there a way to identify a router by its MAC address?
How did they set up the Router and make it so we can't find thier MAC?
Is there any other way besides going door to do to find these routers?

    Thank you.

Purchase a directional antenna and try reposting this on netstumber.org forums. Its a wireless discovery program and they are probably much more knowledgable. about that kind of thing.

I am using netstumber, thats how I got the wireless router MACs. I will try thier forums and knowledge base, but if anyone has any other Ideas to find these or any routers I would be greatful.

Also if a router is connected you should be able to view the mac regardless.

Thats what I thought too, but none of the MACs match up. Is it possable they are using some sort of gateway before the router to avoid this? Even so is there a way to determian by some means if a IP address is a router (wireless or wired) by MAC address or some other means?

Thanks but didn't work, We think that the Router firewall is enabled, either way no results from running this software.

Are you sure that these networks are connected to yours?
Maybe you can find them with this Wireless Detector
