OK...downloaded Firebird and am trying it out... seems good..

    a couple ??'s though...

I can't download anything (.zip for one) I click on the link and the pop-up shows up askinng what to do, and there are no choices...

    any ideas?

    and as for speed....

I use Numion.com to test my web speed..

Ran the test with Firebird and was only at 427Kbps

then ran IE6 (cache was flushed) and had a speed of 838Kbps (which is just about normal)

any thoughts are direction for me?

    Thanks

Hmmm. I've downloaded every type of file I can think of in Firebird, with never a hiccup. And for a complex page like the front page of this (Software) forum, FB renders the display in about a third of the time it takes good ol' IE6 on my machine.
SO. I think you got a bad download, mebbe.
The thing that seems to be most reliable is to uninstall it (and delete the Phoenix folder it created in Docs and Setts\User\App Data), and go back to Mozilla org and get the .zip file, not the installation file, which has been messed about in various ways, ... and then just unzip the zipped file to C: if you want C:\MozillaFirebird, or to Program Files if you want C:\Program Files\MozillaFirebird.

Once it's flying and you've got a selection of the extensions to suit your custom needs, it's worth the bother of getting it set up right.

Firebird is a pain to set up, install java on- which still doesn't really work right, and tweak. Not to mention, on my computer IE runs quite a bit faster anyway. Tabbed browsing and mouse gestures are great, can't live without features, but I get that from MyIE2 now.

I think Internet Explorer just renders pages nicer anyway. That's just my preference though.

On the other hand, I've uninstalled Outlook Express, and made Mozilla Thunderbird my default emailer now.

I decided to try out MyIE2... I like it..

Firebird is nice, but on my system it rendered pages slower.
I had to instll extensions to do anything, and I didn;t like the way it handled my favorites...

I'm sure it is great software, but MyIE2 seems very nice...

I guess the only new feature I was REALLY looking for was tabbed browsing...
