FireFox 26

Hello
I know this is subjective but if I select FF to remember history, do not track and 'nothing', after I click OK it reverts back to 'custom'.
Can you recommend some common sense settings that will keep the browser secure,simple and not accumulate clutter.
I have spent quite some time trying to get the right combination but it has a mind of its own. Explorer and Chrome are straight forward, in my opinion.

Do you mean like the attached? I'm running FF 26 as well with the same settings you chose and they held when I clicked OK. Perhaps you need to clear FF's cache or run CCleaner then retry the settings.

 

I wanted to choose 'remember history' but it won't hold. The caches have been cleaned. Hope someone can jump in and thank you.

Apologies if this might seem odd to you, but if the caches have been cleaned, what's left to remember?

 

Do you see alot of toolbars and extensions active?

Open add/remove programs.

Look for items such as Conduit, Search Protect, SweetIM, Sweetpacks, Yahoo Search Protect, DefaultTab....

Items such as that can cause most browser settings to be stuck to whatever it previously was on when it was first installed there.
If you have had these items installed before but have removed them, you may need to do more cleanup as they will usually still be active even after removal.
Browse around (you may need to change folder options to show hidden files)
Look around for the same folder names as those programs you uninstalled.
The major thing is Conduit, Search Protect and DeafultTab

(Im assuming this is a Vista or Win7)

@ Satrow -I cleaned the cache as was advised in case that was an issue, then I created my settings.

@ rjordan -I have made note of your suggestions and will check them out. I will report back and thank you for your help.

P.S. I just would like to "remember history" /location bar history as well. I unchecked all the settings to be sure there were no contradictions then reset so cookies etc. were checked.

I would gladly accept any suggestions regarding the set up.
