firefox 3 ie6 problem

hi folks..
got home a few hours ago.. powered on the pc's.
I have 2, 1 is just a general pc for browsing and office typr things the others a gaming pc.. that I also do some web design on.

both running xp pro, both just recently had fresh installs of it.
now, pc1 (office machine) opened up firefox and came up with the following

CONNECTION INTERUPTRED

The document contains no data

the network link was interupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.


I thought the net was down, but went to the same version of firefox on pc (gaming maching) and no probs, its where I'm typing this from at the moment.

PC1 - I went to command, and pinged various websites, no problem.
ie6 comes up with page cannot be displayed.

Looked thru google for possible solutions tried a few, nothing.
Have tried the folloing
about:config - several changes and changed back, nothing.
cleared the ff3 cache, nothing.
checked the firewall, nothing - switched it off and back on and off and on.. nothing
theres nothing running that shouldent be running - checked hijack this and also went thru msconfig
last time i used it was last night and no probs, powered down properly and have like I say. powered on when I got home.

Its connected to a decent surge protector, the whole lot is.. including the tv, dishwasher and washing machine.. but not to the same surge protector of course.

Have manually entered an ip address and still no joy.

Any one got any ideas?

just to add, just logged into msn messenger.. no probs.. seems to be a browser problem

yup, been to that page several times, none of the bits on there works, tried the ipv6 to true, false etc.. nope

2 pc;s on the router.. one is fine.. its pc1 thats not playing on the browsers..

like i say, can ping sites thru cmd, can even send messages via msn..
cant browse pages via ff3 and ie6
