    Anyone a Mozilla nut here?

I am curious about this build. I am running it on Nix, but is it an official nightly?

It appears in the Central folder on the Nightly FTP.

    Is it a branch, or?

It looks identical in every way to Minefield 3.0b5pre, and is still even tagged as Minefield, which is just for the 3.x branch.

    Wow

Curious numbering as they are on 3 for everything else, wonder if typo? which location on FTP is this?

/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk still has 3.0 as main version.

Actually just noticed this while searching http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla....al/firefox-4.0a1pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe A WIN version prehaps?

My usual 3.0 version of Minefield still nightly updates with newer version 3 builds and has not migrated to this so curious.

Indeed a Win version of Minefield 4.0Alpha1Pre

    Yep, thats the win version.

My Minefield is still on the 3.0b5pre builds too on Vista.

I installed this on Nix. Its not available through the upgrade channel.

I edited as I installed the version 4.0 on Vista, works fine, killed the only two addons that I had installed but they are of now use really to me, but as I mentioned loads a damm sight quicker and runs quicker than any previous version of Firefox I run before.

It still doesn't make it past 67/100 on Acid 3 though.

hahahhaha dont think any of them do Acid3 well judging by this users test of all the usual suspects http://www.drunkenfist.com/304/2008...sed-i-took-some-screen-captures-lots-of-fail/

I can run with an offshoot, like to live on the wildside at times and seems to be fine so far, may if development slows revert to the offical truck nightly builds of 3 though

    Neither does Opera.

I've been following the nightly threads at Mozillazine fairly close, lately. Don't remember the specific threads, but word was basically, that the 4 alpha doesn't get any "development action", yet...and it may be quite some time, before it does ...And that most of the exciting changes/updates are right there in the current nightlys, for the most part. Or, words to that effect.

I usually, follow the nightly threads at the site to see what bugs/issues are developing and if they're big ones wait, before updating, or downloading a more recent build at the archive linked on the threads. (when I have the time).

Cheers for the info on build 4 Pondhopper as if no significant development is to be done on this I may in a weeks time migrate back to 3, so thanks for this as I not always upto speed on Mozilla stuff as I should be.

You're welcome, it reiterates the things said on the link Adrynalyne provided.

For those interested, here's a thread depicting changes in javascript speed for every new/current nightly and some comparisons with other browsers. Mainly, using the SunSpider JS bench test: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=630259&start=135

In addition, since they are both considered "trunk" builds, 4.0a will be the main trunk once 3.0 comes out. At least, that is the way I read it earlier today. ;)
