I'm thinking of switching from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 4. I've heard that it's a safer version. I've seen Firefox 4 on someone else's PC. What's happened to the menu at the top: File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools and Help?

Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Firefox's Menu Bar is hidden but you can unhide it by clicking on the space at the top and clicking on the Menu Bar or have it temporarily show by pressing the *Alt* button on your keyboard. See pic.

Thanks for the Alt tip, oma. :)

I knew I had suddenly seen the menu bar but had no idea why it temporarily appeared.

The alt key also works in vista and 7, to bring up the menu. ;)

You're so welcome sach2. Thank you for solving how I do get to listen to my favorite radio station!! I will never forget what you did for me. :major
Same thing happened to me and that's how I had to find out what the secret was and thus found it on Mozillazine forum. Treasures are buried there. ;)

I also missed that status bar and installed status-4-evar. What is strange is that I had been having problems with Google, when opening search results in multiple tabs they wouldn't load. So I eventually decided to do a clean install of FF4 rather than just import my profile and extensions and such using MozBackup.

Now, I have the status bar but I never installed the addon. I don't know how that happened? My status bar is not the green one from the extension but pops up until the page loads and then disappears. I don't know if I got a later version of FF4 or not. :confused

I know the answer is buried on Mozillazine but oma used the correct word, "buried". That site has answers to every question about Firefox but finding it is never easy. You have to be motivated to search.

Oma, I'm glad it is still working (at least when I check it once in a while). Did they ever get back to you or is it still intermittent?

No clue on that one. :-o Perhaps you can post in Mozillazine about that one, or some whiz here can answer you to that one? I get the floating one on the bottom left hand side and then it disappears. You can check the version you have of Fx on Help, about Firefox.
No, I never heard from them again but I can listen whenever I want, so it's steady. :)

I have FF 4.0.1 and it has status displayed at the bottom without a bar (no status extensions used). This is probably what you're experiencing as well... if so, it's integrated into FF 4.0.1.

I couldn't stand my bookmark bar being under my tabs, so I unchecked the "tabs on top" under View.

Yes. it was only strange that I had always downloaded updates right up to doing the fresh install and I never got the status information until the update. (Or perhaps status4evar covered it up?).

At any rate, I'm happy now and my google problem has mostly remedied (not 100%) but much better.
