Is it just my system, or is firefox starting to take up quite a bit of memory. My CPU usage likes to jump up after using firefox for about 1/2 hour.

I'm running an Intel P4 (Northwood) 2.00 Ghz CPU.
    512MB RAM

Sometimes, the CPU will go back down to normal, but firefox will still take up aprox 58mb of ram!

Does this happen to anybody else?

    HI!
Yes, it used to happen to ME. Firefox was hogging ram and resources and people would argue with me that it wasn't using near as much as IE would but I had the info in front of me.
I uninstalled it when I also started getting errors trying to do this or that with Firefox.
I won't bother installing it again. I've 'tried' it 4 times..... IMHO....NOT worth the aggravation.

I do like firefox, I use it because it has great plugins and security. But if this continues, then I may try another browser such as opera.

I don't complain when a game does it because when I'm playing a game, I'm focusing on one program. Whereas when I'm surfing the web etc. I am listening to music, downloading and overclocking my fans.

But thanks for those articles, looking through them now.

Not everyone has 2 GB or even 1 installed on their pc, so memory hogs like FF can affect their performance of their pc, but then again its all up to the user if he decides to keep FF or switch to another alternative

I use FF from time to time, and the only complaint I have is that it opens VERY SLOOOOOWLY. IE, PhaseOut, UltraBrowser all open MUCH quicker....

I really do not understand the reason behind others issue with the "memory leak" with FF.

So, I'll just give up on the "battle".

The argument with playing a game, which would take up resources, and then it doesn't matter. Well, when I'm browsing the interweb. My pipes are not clogged. :)

FF doesn't open up slowly for me.

I do have to say one thing. No one can convince others to change. I'm happy with FF. Others might be happy with Opera. Some IE. What matters, is what ye are happy with.

Since v. 1.5, Firefox has a fast backward-and-forward browsing feature that keeps a number of web pages in active memory so you can quickly go back to them if you want. By default, the number is greater if you have more RAM, so Firefox uses more memory if you have more memory.

If you want to have it use less memory, you can alter that setting. That tweak, and other ways to reduce memory usage, are explained here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Reducing_memory_usage_(Firefox)
