I was using Internet Explorer 7 and decided to start using mozilla Firefox as outlined in the 'how to protect yourself from malware' thread.

Do i have to uninstall IE7?

Will there be programs that wont work now or arent compatible with Firefox etc?

Also web security guard which is an add on from Spyware terminator doesnt work in firefox. How do i get it to work for Firefox as well? I tried downloading it but Firefox saves it into an unusual location and when i try and run it, it says that websecurityguardsetup is not a valid win32 application?

Do i have to learn new ways of doing things with Firefox?? Are there new things i should be learning?

Maybe its easier to stay with IE7?

    You really don't want to un-install I.E.

Firefox won't interfere with other programs however, some programs will insist on using I.E. even if you have another web browser set as the default browser. IIRC you need to install the Web Security Guard tool bar for Firefox through Spy Ware Terminator.

Might also suggest you install these extensions for Firefox:

    No Script:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

    Add Block Plus:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

    WOT:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456

    FlashBlock:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433

    Finjun:
    http://securebrowsing.finjan.com/index.html

And for those troublesome sites that insist on working only with I.E.
Just install one of these not both.

    IE Tab:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
Opens the current page using I.E. in a Firefox tab.

    Or IE View:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/35
Opens the current page in I.E.

Using 'Web Security Guard' is really up to you. If you find it useful then you should keep it. I tried it several months ago and didn't find it useful for my purposes so, ended up un-installing it and haven't tried it again.

Does it do the same job as Finjan and WOT?

It's supposed to, as well as containing some quick links for search engines like Google and the Yellow pages and a few other features(questionable features to me). One such feature tried to block me from pulling up MajorGeeks(that set me free). That was fixed pretty quick but, that showed me it still needed a lot of work. So I un-installed it.

What annoyed me was, it some times would hang during an update and then finally report that the update was incomplete(some thing to that effect). As soon as it began the update process it would peg the cpu at 100% and maintain that during the entire process, from downloading through installation, which varied in length from a couple of minutes to several minutes(say 20 or so). Plus the updates were irregular at best, some times every day, some times it would go for days with out an update. Now if you compare that time and regularity(or lack of) to say a full blown app. such as Avast or Threatfire, they both update regularly and in just a few seconds. I realize i'm comparing apples to oranges but if those apps can do it, why can't 'Web Security Guard', a tool bar? And maybe that has changed.

It's been a long time since I've used it. They may have improved it.

Personally I would stick to Finjan and WOT, although they're still fine tuning Finjan. Keep in mind the key factor in security is you. No browser is perfect.

If you want a good extension for the Firefox search bar try: Add to Search Bar
