   so my ie is corrupted and wont work " i would like to eliminate or disable ie"
   
   is that reason firefox downloads/saves page as internet explore icon to open in ie
   i want to save and open in firefox

   You can't remove IE but in Win 7 and 8 you can disable it.
   This is for 7; I don't run 8 so can't give you instructions for that OS.
   Start/Control Panel/Programs and Features/Turn Windows features on or off - in the left pane (CP is set to small icons on View by)
   Just remove the check/tick in front of Internet Explorer.
   Be sure to click ok before you close the box.
