    Running firefox unsuccesful, code 0xc000000d.
Scanned computer with Avast and with Advanced System Care and program Repair tools.
Repair tools "scanned" my sys and decided I had more than 2,000 errors which they would fix (I buy the program)
Avast find nothing in the way of a threat, Adv Sys Care and that scan gave rating of good to "computer health,." while citing unnamed or unlisted security threats, sys errors and performance settings still in sys.

So I need to upgrade Sys Care or buy Repair tools to learn what the problem is and what to do about it?

First step: open FF and click on Help. Select Restart with addons disabled. If you no longer get the error, you can assume that one of your addons is causing the problem.

To troubleshoot, I usually disable all but the first two and browse. If the browser is okay, I enable the next two. Keep doing this until you can determine which addon or addons is causing the problem.

Unfortunatly I ama unable to load Firefox at all.
As soon as I click on the Desktop icon the error message comes up, and the program closes. If I go to Start aand then into Programs to access FF, it still crashes.
I took FF out of my system, then used IEx to dowload the latest version from Mozilla. No change.

Hold the shift key down while launching firefox. A Window should come up with different options. Press the "Start in Safemode". Does the error still occur?

  5. Skysarge

    Skysarge First Sergeant

Yes, the same error message comes up if I use the shift key when loading.

If you are running avast Webshield, try disabling it and see if firefox starts. It may help to disable every shield one at a time, and see which shield if any affects firefox.

What version of FF are you running?
(I see you are in Windows 7).
Do you have a USB stick? If so, you can try a portable version and see if that works.
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
Note: this uses the default theme and I don't think it has addons. It might have plugins. I have a portable version but not v9 and it has been so long since I've used it that I don't remember.

Then we can figure out what is corrupting FF installed on your computer.

  9. Skysarge

    Skysarge First Sergeant

I believe FF 8. I uninstalled whichever was loaded, and loaded current version, and FF8 is what they are posting on their download site.
    My OP is Win XP/SP3
USB stick - aka flash drive(?)

  10. plodr

    plodr Major Geek Super Extraordinaire

    The path for FF's exe in Win 7 is C:\Program Files(x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe
Go there and click on firefox.exe . Does it open without an error? If so, then your program listing and desktop icon are corrupt.

I just put portable v9 on a USB stick and I'm running it on my Win 7 netbook (Acer). There are no addons.
There are two plugins: flash 11.1.102.55 and Silverlight 4.0.60531.0
so it should be usable on your Win 7 Aspire.

ooops, I see I have the OS wrong, I was reading my tagline. Embarrasing!
    Actually v 9 is the latest. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

I'll try the portable version on an XP computer in a bit.

Yes USB stick is the same as a flash drive or pen drive.

This is sort of an old issue but do you use Roboform? If so, try updating to the latest version.

If you delete firefox and try to reinstall, it still leaves a profile that may be corrupted as plodr suggested. You can try to do a Clean Install as outlined here.

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Clean_reinstall

Another location folder that should also be removed before you do a reinstall is
    C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla

    Do this on every user.

Report on FF v9 portable run on an XP SP3 computer.
I was able to download and install the theme I wanted.
I installed two addons: AdBlockPlus and NoScript.
When I checked the plugins, this computer had more than my Win 7, probably because the Win 7 doesn't have an optical drive and hence no burning software. One of the plugins was DRM (digital right management) which probably shows up if the computer has a burner.

The portable browsing will be slower but it works.

I did the FF clean install, still encountering problem.
As it was reloading I realized the desktop icon had not been removed.
Not sure if that had any bearing.
Answering the Q about Roboform; don't use it
I also noticed I am not encountering problems opening some programs from desktop.
"SWindows can't find..." error comes up.

I am kind of getting in over my head here. Have you installed version 9? I was looking for something a little different in Event Viewer.

Right click My Computer and select Manage and then go to Event Viewer and select system. Are there any logs relating to the firefox error?

  23. Skysarge

    Skysarge First Sergeant

I installed per earlier suggestion here, assuming that is 9
Following instructions went to Event Viewer
Nothing specific for FF was found, found several Service Control Mamager entries, a win 32time withing the last time frame for the problem. SCM concerned Google Updates and Help & Support center
    This was listed late afternoon:
"Application popup: PhotoApp.exe - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

There is something with the cd drive, many errors pertrain to that. But I again find nothing specific to or mentioning FF

Whatever is doing this is really become a PIA
It will nmot let me on sudry web sites. One warning cites FF having to close, the other about Win cannot find such.
I deleted a fes of those shortcuts, went to Iex brought up the URL and reloaded from there
I still get the same error messages.

Thanks all of you for helping not only with this but with seems to be chronic glitches of all sorts with thie computer and system.

I am running out of ideas. The only thing I can think of is that firefox and msvcr80.dll are not getting along. You posted

This file is used by Visual C++ but is distributed by applications. It should be in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT... It is also located in C:\Program Files\Mozilla.

My version in my XP home is 8.0.50727.3053 in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT... and in C:\Program Files\Mozilla it is 8.0.50727.762

And in my Windows 7 laptop in C:\Program Files\Mozilla it is 8.0.50727.762
and in C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.CRT... it is 8.0.50727.4927

What is the version number in C:\Program Files\Mozilla on your computer?

I am signing off until tomorrow so have a Happy New Year!!

I looked to see what photoapp.exe was because I was not familiar with it.

Do you have or had some sort of Walmart digital photo manager/viewer on the computer?

Can you get to the sites using Internet Explorer? (I generally do not use IE but it is good to have another browser when you are troubleshooting).

Honestly it sounds like some larger trouble other than just being firefox, Typically clean installing a program will fix any installation issues. Maybe something is wrong virus wise or something?

One of my friends had a similar problem with steam. I got his computer and disable the firewalls and virus/malware protection to see if those were interfering and then the computer went to crap. It had a nasty virus that was somewhat kept in check although it still had some effects on the most random bs. I would try a few different antimalware/antivirus programs and see if they find anything.

I went back through, deleted FF, the Local Setting Spplication FF, and the FF icon.
I also deleted the WalMart digital photo manager, recently installed.
I then loaded clean install as per earlier suggestion.
    Error message still comes up.

I tried to access several sites I frequent. Some come up with no probkem, others ativate the FF closing warning, and also a message that the site I am trying to acess (through shortcut icons on desktop) cannot be found. ie, I cannot access my bank, but I can access MG's Quick Care.
I am sort of hoping to solve this an save the $$ computer sys consultants charge.

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. I wanted to get the version number msvcr80.dll. So double click on the Mozilla folder and in that folder should be msvcr80.dll. Right click msvcr80.dll and select Properties and then click on the version tab. What is the version number of msvcr80.dll?

Yep, that is it. For some reason firefox and the other msvcr80.dll are in conflict and I am not sure why.

    Okay,
Try installing the Visual C++ 2005 SP1 and Security update as I linked to. If that does not help, I am out of ideas and hopefully somebody can jump in here. Maybe plodr found something.

Edit: before you do this create a restore point.

Went to FF support, Firefox says I have an account with them, but I do not have the correct user name or pw.
I reset the pw, but still cannot access.:banghead

    Crash ID: bp-2849bc5d-0e57-41da-aec8-57b7b2101223

However, I cannot chase that down until I ascertain how to get into FF to TS

System Restore is All Programs>Accessories>System Restore. Or Start>Run>rstrui.exe and hit <enter>.

If you right-click FF icon do you get an option to run as Administrator? If so does running as Administrator make any difference?

Does Avast have an option to disable itself? Can you try to disable Avast and see if FF still gives the error?

I think tgell wanted you to Create a new restore point and then try to install/reinstall the C++ file found in post #42. So go ahead and try that.

**If this problem just started out of the blue with no Virus that you know of then after creating the new restore point, you could try going back to a time before the problem happened. I haven't read the whole thread recently so you might want to create a new restore point and then see what tgell recommends.
