I have been having problems with Mozilla Firefox search going over to Babylon.
I upgraded Firefox, but now it keeps hanging up and I get "Not responding" messages.
I ran Avast boot time scan which only found an installer archive corrupted that had nothing to do with Firefox.
    Thanks, I'll check back later

    Greetings, Skysarge.

    Couple of quick questions:

    1. Do you experience the same symptoms with Internet Explorer, and when booting into Safe Mode w/ Networking?

    2. Have you tried Firefox with no add-ons?

    Caliban,

    To answer your questions -

    1) IEx also boots also using Babylon. However I did not notice the hangups I seem to have with Firefox.

2)When setting up for Safe Mode, I am unable to select anything, using the arrow keys. They work elsewhere

I am noticing also that connecting to the net seems very slow. I cued Mozilla Thunderbird, and it took 16 seconds to start loading. Not sure it this is in any way related, but it seems systemic.

    Thanks for response,
    Skysarge

    Hi.

I'm not familiar with 'Babylon' - what is it?

If I'm reading this correctly as a browser redirection, then regardless of your previous avast! scan it may be prudent to walk through the Read & Run Me First thread to be safe.

Also, a list of your startup programs might give a clue.

If Babylon Toolbar isn't something that you wanted and intended to install, please remove it. I'm not sure what it does, but I've seen it on a few computers that had malware infections on them.

Back with a little time to work on this.

Thisisu - I removed it. I went back to Firefox, Selected Tools, then Options, then selected General. In the Startup window it had Babylon selected, I changed that to open with Firefox as my homepage.
I do not remember changing that to Babylon, and I am relatively sure my memory has not gotten quite that bad, even at my age.

I am still curious why I cannot get the computer to boot in Safe Mode. The F8 key process brings up a screen from which I can select that option, but the arrow keys are not working for that screen. They do work when working all other programs.
I am trying to chase down what is the cause of chronic slow, and sometimes dropped program selections. To start troubleshooting that problem it was suggested bootiing in Safe Mode.

Not sure on what kind of motherboard you are using, but you could try setting in the bios, either "USB legacy support" or "USB keyboard support".

Or just use a ps2 keyboard to get into safemode.
