I've been using FF for several years now but have never seen this before. This came out after I had a sudden power out, my UPS has gotten old so I wasn't able to shut down normally. Everything else seems to be fine. Thanks as always good folks.:)

:confused Weird!! Have you tried right-clicking up there and see if you can chose to close some of the extra buttons? Maybe an uninstall/reinstall? I'm pretty sure that during the uninstall process FF will prompt if you want to save your profile (like bookmarks, add-ons, etc) so it'll be there when you re-install. To be on the safe side, you might want to back up the profile, then use an uninstaller like Revo to completely remove it. Your FF profile is stored here: c:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and there should be a subfolder there called bookmarkbackups. Copy it (or your entire "Profiles" folder) to a flash drive or something..... good luck!

    . . . and a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I have the intelligence of a turnip today!:-o Believe it or not, I just basically use FF out of the box and never looked in the nooks and crannies as that screenie is of the 'Navigation Toolbar'. The power cut must have checked the box somehow.:confused Thanks for your help as I usually forget about right-clicking things for some reason. I hope this was embarrassing enough for me to not forget this again!:-D

Now I have to find out what that toolbar does.;)

Have a Happy New year too dlb, though I think that I've already had too much holiday cheer for today! :drink

EDIT: If I delete the navigation toolbar then I don't have any of the controls left. Unless someone can come up with an alternative, it's a re-install. Thanks for the backup info.:)

To re-arrange the electrons ;) I'd say, eliminate Navigation for the moment. Then click on View Toolbars and recheck/retick it and hopefully you get just one instance of it back.

Already tried that several times plodr. Also tried to drag and drop but it doesn't want to go anywhere, at least the superfluous parts don't. Oh, and hovering the cursor over all those extra navigation bars auto selects them as if it were one box.

Going to try safe mode for the heck of it as I hate to slash and burn as no one learns from that. If I still have problems I'll post in their forums and report back with solutions if any. Thanks plodr.

If you have to do a fresh install, it's not a big deal, with a couple of precautions. Just did it myself and only took a few minutes. Had to do it because FF was just getting slow for some reason.

If you have any saved passwords, use the Password Exporter 1.2 add-in to export them to a temp location. (They won't be encrypted, so be careful and securely delete the file once re-imported to the new install.)

Do a bookmark backup to a safe location--not in any of the FF folders, but into My Documents or somewhere similar.

If you're using Adblock Plus and you've added custom filters to the standard list, back those up using AdBlock.

Write down all the add-ins you have installed.

    Uninstall FF.

This may or may not be necessary, but shouldn't hurt anything since you just backed everything up--delete your profile folder to get everything back to normal, do it at: (xp)

    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\

Run CCleaner or something similar to clean up the leftovers.

    Reinstall FF 3.5.6

Restore your bookmarks, reload your add-ins, including Password Exporter and AdBlock Plus if necessary. Import your passwords back in if necessary, import your custom filters into AdBlock if necessary.

That's it--at least that's the process I went through. It took maybe ten minutes and everything was just like it was originally, except way faster.

Thanks Neurons as I may have to do that eventually. I went and ran FF in safemode as per this guide and restored the toolbar. Unfortunately, DownloadHelper doesn't seem to want to install now, which grabs and converts videos like youtube, google etc. I'm a gettin' thar.:-D Thanks all.:)
