Hi this is my first post and i hope you like it.
After doing speed tests with http://www.numion.com/stopwatch/index.html?
and have the site test to http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ this is what i found out:

    ie7:it took 46.997 secs confused

    opera:
    default:53.547:cry
    max connections:53.985 secs

    and now firefox

    default settings:16.029 secs
using tweak network set to power: 12.234 secs :major

as you can see this is a big different in secs to load pages not to mention that opera is said to be the fastest

"all test where used on dial-up"

if you want to send in results for other browsers that fine eg:avanti but try to do it on dial-up so i can see witch browser is really the fastest:major:D:D:D:D

    A Bit Off Topic:

I don't even bother with IE7 because all security vulnerabilities will show up there and MS is never exactly cutting edge. As a long time FF user is there anything in Opera's interface that you do like? I'm happy with FF but just want to know if there is any reason I should try Opera (Speed is not important unless really noticeable--I've found IE6 slower than FF but just chalked that up to a poorly configured DELL).

    *********
Your speed tests kind of mirror what I, unofficially, see when trying to load a page in IE6 but I have a pretty much empty IE cache.

I use K-Meleon. My broadband connection is right around 4.2mbs upload and 400kbs download. I load MG in 1.1 secs. (average) , IE7 loads in 1.2 secs. (average) using the link you gave. http://www.numion.com/stopwatch/index.html?
K-Meleon is a fast page load browser. I don't know if the MS updates have increased the page load speed of IE7 but I know it was much slower in the past.
I may download FF and give it a try and get back with you.

How does K-Meleon stack up? Another Mozilla browser enters the race, how about the mac for windows browser Safari?

I downloaded FF and configured it the same as K-Meleon. This time I tested all 3 browsers and used a calculator to get exact averages. I loaded MG 5 times with each. There was a big difference in load times from the same browser, going to the same place, within secs. of each test. I was suprised at my results.

    FireFox- 1.4174 secs.average
K-Meleon- 1.25 secs average (fastest load of all 3 browsers .9871 secs.)
IE7- 1.1652 secs. average THE WINNER!!! confused
Again, I wonder if new MS updates increased the speed of IE7. I have rarely used it in the last 4 months.
I would like to see someone else's results now.

K-Meleon is a speed demon. It is incredibly fast. As for entering the race..its been around for quite a while.

Only thing I have used that is faster is Swiftfox w/ fasterfox extension.

    Thats in Linux though.

Let me time Swiftfox loading here vs....hey how do I time IE?

Ok, first results, caches cleared, browsers closed.

    IE 7 :02.375
    KMeleon: :01.656

    Rebooting to try Swiftfox.

If you want to run tests like this, you need to dump your cache after each test otherwise you will get skewed incorrect results. Example: timing IE6 to load the http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ page the first time gave me 2.35 seconds repeating the test gave me 0.89 seconds. Dumping the cache and running again gave me 2.55 seconds.

Yeah, thats what I am doing Chas.

    Ok, final results.

    IE: 2.375
    KM: 1.656
    SwiftFox: 1.564

Oh yeah...put that in your pipe and smoke it. Swiftfox wins!

I used majorgeeks.com as my test bed.

Even though Swiftfox won, thats very impressive for K-Meleon in an untweaked state.

Nah! FireFox 2.0.4 loaded majorgeeks.com in 1.0.0 for me. :p but only once! Later test was 1.4 and then 1.567

Speed is all relative to the connection. Speed differences are related to the browser :p

I'm connecting to a browser in New York, from southern Arizona :D

yes i cleared the cache and got the average of the browsers i did i 3 times and rounded of for the average:major:major:major
also try testing ff with tweak network to made 4 secs gap which is good for a dial-up user
    stay at school

you cant benchmark anything with dial up...the speed is never sustained or stable.

yes but i tested it 3 times and rounded it of.
got pretty close to the average :major:major
    but sill you are right

Security vunerabilities in a browser are more the user than the browser as much malware contracted is due to user! both browsers suffer from security issues these days,

I find IE7+ and this is the Vista one Opera and FF3 the quicker browsers at this time.

    FF3 ( aka Minefield ) 7.928sec
    IE7 4.7sec
    Opera 5.9sec
    Safari ( beta ) 17.207sec
    Flock 9.834sec

These times as determined due to my ISP and speed so will be different to everyone elses due to their connection speeds, mine was tested in 1mb DL if I tested same in work on 20mb+ Dl then the results would be different, so in my senario IE7 is quickest, and being it runs in Vista with no admin rights and as limited user it is secure so long you leave UAC on nothing can install, only way is if user clicks past at least 3 UAC prompts.

Just did a quick test here, using www.yahoo.com for a test in IE7 and FF 2.0.0.4. FF took 3.916 seconds; IE, 3.755 seconds. I did not clear cache in either browser before the test.

Just to let everyone here know these tests depend quite a bit on the internet connection speed as well as if a browsers settings have been tweaked. I used to be a long time FF user until I found opera. I configured it to work with my connection better and it loads a lot faster then firefox did on my computer tweaked...

    that's my 2cents
