Firefox not responding on startup

Yesterday, after a power failure, firefox started coming up slow, and when it did it was always in a non-responsive state. After running an Avast boot-time scan and Malwarebytes, now it doesn't come up at all, though I can see it under Processes in the task manager.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, even went back to version 26, and still nothing.

Chrome and IE are working fine.

Any ideas?

Uninstalling firefox probably did not remove your old profile. Install firefox, then hit the windows key + r type in firefox -p . That should bring up the profile manager, from there, create a new profile and try again, or you could just rename your profile, but, we'd need to know if you are on xp, vista, 7, 8, 8.1....

If vista or higher go to: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and add .old to the name.

 

Sounds like a corrupt/hung BHO (Browser Helper Object)

Creating a new profile did the trick. Thanks to everyone who replied.
