    Hi,

Firefox has been very slow for about the last week or so.
When typing login info (for safelists, etc.) there is a delay in it
appearing in login areas. Scrolling is also delayed. Sometimes putting
the cursor on the right side scroll bar & clicking produces a
not responding message at top of browser. After loading FF,
it takes almost a minute for my homepage (Yahoo) to appear.

Yesterday I upgraded to V2 and not only is problem
still here, but it wiped out all my favorites list confused

Have rebuilt it with only items I use on a daily basis.
I found an add-on that saves favorites, which I installed yesterday.

    I have no other add-ons.

Don't have any of these problems with IE or AOL.

Any ideas, suggestions etc. before I uninstall it & reinstall?
Restarts, defrag do nothing. No adware/spyware, virus'
etc. Scans are run every day.

    All help appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Lou

Do a Google search for the CCleaner utility and use it to clear your history, temp files, cookies, etc. See if that helps. It'd probably just be easier to save your favorites, etc, then uninstall and reinstall. Not sure what would be causing your problem. Maybe someone else can explain :)

Thanks. History, temp files, cookies, etc are automatically cleaned
whenever I log off FF or IE.

Did you remove all registry issues associated? confused (You can use CCleaner for that as well.)

What about the Mozilla folders located under Application Data and Local Settings? Make sure you remove all instances of Mozilla everywhere, before you do a reinstall.

Do a windows search if necessary and make sure you can view all hidden file/folders.

    Hi MickeyRoush,

Didn't do anything with registry (don't know how).

Just did uninstall, deleted every Mozilla Firefox I could find, using search function. Looked everywhere on computer.

Reinstalled, tried regular & safe modes, same problem. confused

TBH, if you suspect malware then running one program isn't going to cut it. Each malware removal program targets different types of issues so you have to run several different types in order and under certain conditions to get the best cleaning effect possible. Read and work through this link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

I don't think this is any malware because only having problem with FF.
    Everything else runs fine.

Did you run the extensions I gave in Post #7? And how did that affect things?

I tried the "FasterFox"...pages load a little faster, but does not
    solve delay/scroll problem.

Did not try "Nightly Tester Tools" yet. What does that do?

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox you need to remove all instances of it that remains after you use the Add/Remove Programs option.

After you use the Add/Remove Programs option to remove Mozilla Firefox download this and install it.
    http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Yahoo_Toolbar_English_d4191.html

Before you run it, we need to make sure all file/folders are not hidden.
To do this, open My Documents.
    Select Tools
    Folder Options

    New window will pop up.
    Select View tab.
Make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected.
    Click Apply
    OK

Run the cleaner and let it remove all that it finds. Run it at least one more time.

Next, select Issues. Select Scan for Issues. Let it fix all that it finds. You may have to run this several times until all is gone.

Now you need to either do a Search to find all Mozilla files/folders and remove them or you may be able to get away with just removing the Mozilla folders located in Application Data and Local Settings under your user profile. Which are located:

    Documents and Settings
"your user profile" folder (the name that you log in under)
    Application Data
    Mozilla (Remove it)

    And

    Documents and Setings
"your user profile" folder (the name that you log in under)
    Local Settings
    Application Data
    Mozilla (Remove it)

Run CCleaner again, at least a couple more times.

You should get your answer before the day is done, you might want to post the solution back here dorilu so other Major Geeks users can benefit.

np :) It enables you to tweak settings, including but not restricted to settings to improve your browsers performance. If you do not feel comfortable changing settings this probably isn't for you.

Well, after a multitude of file deletions, uninstalls/reinstalls am
no better off than when I started.

Have downloaded beta v3 of FF and STILL have "delay" problem.

Was told not advisable to use this version as it may cause other problems.

Was also told that an OS or hardware problem MAY be the cause of the delay, but find that hard to believe, since only have this problem with FF.

It started with v1.5.0.11, upgraded to v2.0.0.4 and now this beta version.

    Well folks...

    Finally, Finally, Finally.....

Am now running FF 2.0.0.6 :clap

Had diagnostics run today and found that either/or my anti-virus
or pop-up blocker programs were not allowing FF to install.

Don't know exactly why, but with them disabled was able to uninstall
FF 1.5 and install FF 2.0.0.6

Also, the "delay" problem seems to have been fixed.

Had some minor registry problems which were also fixed.

    Ah computers...aren't they wonderful rolleyes

    Lou
