Firefox Proxy Server Trouble

I was recently attacked by Malware but thanks to the excellent help I recieved from the Malware forum, I was able to rid my laptop completely of the problems I was experiencing. However, one of the things affected by the infection was my ability to run Mozilla FireFox. The helper advising me through the malware removal thought it best to seek help from software. Everytiime I attempt to access the internet via Mozilla I get an error message the reads "Proxy Server Refused Connection". I am using windows XP and have never encountered this untill the virus. Please Help, Thanks
