Firefox residue?

I am trying to do a clean uninstall of Firefox.. I deleted it thru Add & Remove programs, and did a search with my little yellow dog for any leftover folders, and deleted them but am getting this error every time I start my computer...
    View attachment 120103

Now, this WA is integrated into my IE.. I need it there, so don't want to remove it.. But, how do I get rid of this error? I have searched for the Mozilla profile, but cannot find it anywhere... I already checked the other thread...

Is there anything else I may have missed?

I did check that .... Also, cannot find any profile for firefox.

Odd question, did you check using Windows Cleanup Utility, to see if Firefox is removed properly? And if that is starting every time your computer does, possibly its sitting in your "Run" Registry for when your computer boots, but if you remove it, it would also remove it from starting on bootup for your Internet Explorer.

I will check that now, but if it would also remove it from my IE, I can live with the error.. It isn't such an odd error, as being on dial-up has it's drawbacks.... Will do some snooping now.. ;)

Try looking in Start>Run type in %appdata% and see if there is a Mozilla folder. Maybe check that you have you set IE as your default browser.

OK, this I did find: View attachment 120111

Now, if I delete that, will it also delete my WA from IE? I gotta have it, so if deleting it will crate a problem, then I will leave it alone..

I did that also, and no Mozilla folder..

I'm not sure if this is your DSNet software but it mentions a FF extension to the DNSet software. http://www.dsnet.us/faq.shtml#b1
I'm not sure if it is worth messing with your installation but perhaps you could look in add/remove programs and see if there is a way to modify the DNSet program to remove the FF extension. Or see if there is a way to change options in the DNSnet software.

Yes, the WA is in add and remove programs, and I was just thinking of burning it to a CD, then removeing it, and reinstalling it thru the CD... I'll give it a whirl, as I pay extra every month for that WA service... I never had the 'error' until I uninstalled Firefox.... I'll give that a whirl, and see if I can burn it to a CD.....;) I'll be back!

  10. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

OK, I deleted the "'Mozilla Integrator, but still am getting the error, and so I went to add & remove programs, and tried to remove the WA and then just download it all nice and fresh, but it will not let me.. OK, looks like I will have to live with this error.... There is no way to modify the WA settings.. Also, if I can't delete it, I will just have to live with it... Live and learn.....rolleyes

Since it starts with Windows you might be able to delete it from safe mode. Or check Start>Run>msconfig>startup tab and see if it is there. You could disable it, reboot and then try and Add/Remove the program.

  12. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

I'll see what I can do with that.. I just ran cc cleaner, and still getting that error... It really is no biggie, just more annoying than anything, because it works.. It is integrated in my IE browser... I just love these 10 minute jobs that take all day;)

  13. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

CCleaner has msconfig access under Tools>Startup. You can disable it there if it is listed.

  14. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

Well, it looks like I am going to just have to live with this one, as it is listed in CC cleaner, and even there, I did disable it, and still cannot remove it... I even tried CC cleaner to remove it, and no way, so I will just let it be. It is connecting, and working, so I'll just wait and see what my ISP says, since it is their puppy anyway... They told me to just remove it from add & remove program, and do a fresh install.. Sounded so easy rolleyes

A couple other places to check:

Look for "Start up" for both "all users" and the account you log into.

    Also, check under:

    regedit

    HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

    and

    HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

if you find it anywhere in there, you should be able to delete it.

  16. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

I'll give that a whirl, and see if I can find it.. Normally, I don't mess with regit stuff, but this is really annoying, so I'll give that a whirl, and hopefully, if everything goes right, I'll be back shortly.. If not, well, something went very wrong..

Also, what about going to my computer>right click onto hard drive, and click explore? shouldn't it be in one f the files there? there? It has been 3 yrs since I had to mess with delteing this and re-downloading it.. My DUN connection is SLOW without it tho... Well, looks like I am going to search now;) I am the only user on this computer... Now, when you say
, exactly where should I be looking ? Yeah, I have been in almost everything on here today! rolleyes

  17. theefool

    theefool Geekified

Or right click "start" and left click on explore "explore all users", "Programs", "start up". Do you find it there?

Also, from there, you should be able to look under your c:\documents and settings\(your username)\...blah same place as above....

In addition, could you find the exact filename of the program that is attempting to run? If so, I can create a script that will find all the entries in the registry and output to a .txt file (or have notepad bring it up).

  18. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

Nothing so far, see my post #1, and I'll keep plugging away... What it is telling me, is it can't find FF, and it is integrated with it, but FF has since been deleted... Totally removed, and the WA is and always has been on my IE... Oh, what tangled little webs we weave, eh?

  19. theefool

    theefool Geekified

Okay, xp and windows 7 have different parameters for reg.exe

So, one could use this command at the cmd prompt:

    reg query hklm /s > help.txt
    reg query khcu /s >> help.txt
    find "filename.exe" help.txt

yes, it is archaic, but it will search Hkey Local Machine and Hkey Current User for anything pertaining to "filename.exe".

It may help in your search for this vile file. :) Or not .. :)

  20. theefool

    theefool Geekified

Or, instead of "filename.exe" you can use what is inside the " " 's with any wording.

I was using "notepad.exe" or "notepa" for a test, to see if this worked.

The fun part is parsing through this info and finding the culrpit.

Oh, and the find file can be redirected also.

    find "whatever" help.txt > results.txt
    notepad results.txt

Hi there, are we having fun yet? Sure! OK, here is a screen shot of the file names on the error. The first line is what I get when I go into add & remove programs, and click remove.. Now, after closing that error, I get the one on the second line.. I did search for Mozilla Firefox, and Mozilla and the entire string, with no results.....:confused
    View attachment 120141

Does this look familiar to you at all? :confused

OK, I am off to see if I can "parse".... I did find a shortcut to the WA, but to delete that, would be fruitless, as it only deleted the shortcut... so, I left that too... :)

Huh, with my (script) did you use: find "MozillaIntegrator.exe" help.txt > results.txt
    then notepad results.txt

BTW, you have to click START, then RUN, then type in:

    cmd (press enter).

Then type in the commands that I listed.......

    or just run this

    runme.bat

But, if you download it you, have to rename it to .bat or .cmd

It may or may not take a while to run.

I could create another script to delete these entries, but I won't, since that could be dangerous.

But you can post the results here.

Or another program that may, should be beneficial, is, a HiJackThis post:

Well, I did the cmd and the find and this is what showed up in the notepad:

I am not finding the text file, it is just giving me back what I am searching for..... OK, time to hit the hay, as they say! See you all tomorrow, if it isn't storming... DUN's don't like storms! I honestly didn't know FF attached it's self so.Wow. So if i ever decided to uninstall FF this is what I will have to go through? Not that I have any future plans to do so. TC are you sure you didn't get a bad download?

There is a free search program called "everything" I have used for a very long time. Much better than windows. Not sure if major geeks offers it yet or not.

You can google the term "free search program everything". It should be the first link. Super fast and takes little resources. It has found stuff on my hard drive that windows missed.

Um just a thought in the control panel under folder options and go to the view tab and selected "show hidden files and folders". Leave the "hide protected operating system files" one alone. Leave those hidden. .

You can also download a free trial (30 days) of "Your uninstaller". See if it shows up there. If so use that to remove it. Just a few Ideas I hope help. Have a nice day.

bigtrucks, I don't know if it was a 'bad download' or what.. All those enties were left AFTER removing FF, and running Revo and CC cleaner... That is still on my system, and I may have to take my tower in to get it all removed... I know a lot of stuff leaves residue, but there is so much left it is hard to believe anything actually got deleted...

Neither Revo or CC cleaner could find that, but the reg. search did... Now, what to do about it... That is the question... I am in a pickle, for sure..

I didn't have any of those reg. before FF, but I sure do have them now...rolleyes

  32. satrow

DomLuc pretty much summed up the situation in his first two sentences here.

Viewpoint Media Player is usually installed by AOL and is often referred to as spyware.

The vast majority of those Registry 'tracks' are empty.

The following will be the same even if FF has never been installed
These show that you have searched for FF/Mozilla
    Look at the following entries
Adobe, Microsoft, Google, Viewpoint - not Mozilla ... there's nothing left of FF in your system.

  33. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

Well ,satrow, I guess we will find out... Soon enough... That is what was found when searching with the Reg.search . How else do you explain, that a reg. by the name of "MozillaIntegrator" is stopping me from downloading my WA? If it wasn't from FF, then where did MozillaIntegrator" come from? MozillaIntegrator" isn't in IE... It isn't in Opera... The WA doesn't integrate with Opera, only IE... (and FF of course.)

I'll get it straightened out, when I take my tower in, and they will tell me what the problem was, and what they had to do to fix it...

  34. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Maybe it came from your Web Accelerator program, Google suggests this is highly likely ...

  35. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

My system is up and running again... When I removed Firefox from Add & Remove program, it took PART of my WA with it. So, in essence, I was left with only half of the WA software. Can't hardly do anything with only half the software, now can I?

YES, those reg. entries were from FIREFOX, and it was NOT a clean removal. There was residue left behind. I noticed that both satrow & DomLuc conveniently overlooked them.

@ satrow, Google may be good for some things, but I feel when it comes to my computer, a Tech just cannot be beat. I will take my Tech's advice over any Google-search any day.

As far as my WA leaving all those entries? I was told no by a very reputable Tech today... That, I can take to the bank.

Then, of course, there is the connection, which is a DUN, and not hi-speed, so if I had hi-speed, I would not have a use for a WA to begin with... Since I am on a DUN, I do have a need for the software, which, by the way, is now installed and running... Just fine.....:major

  36. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

OK, just to clarify things, the first six registry keys that were ignored were a problem that the Tech had to remove in order to get things working properly.

I hope that answers your questions.....:major

  37. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

Umm, your system was never u/s ...

No, WA was left intact - that's why there was the error message, had MozillaIntegrator.exe been removed by FF (or by WA once it had become redundant) you wouldn't have had the error.

The only part that couldn't work was the part that WA had tried to embed into the FF that was no longer installed. the part of WA that was fully useable, ie. the IE part, would have been blissfully unaware of the lack off FF (and the 'missing' 50% of itself) and continued working just as it had before FF was installed (the installation of which was the trigger for WA to install <where's the fanfare icon when you need it?> MozillaIntegrator.exe.

The 'residue', as previously explained, were EMPTY, ie., there was nothing there for any software to interact with - this was the crux of the problem - your WA software was insistent on trying to interact with something that was no longer installed ...

I'll take that as a personal insult as I input the search terms; I could have used Yahoo, Bing ... and still come up with the same examples that clearly showed that MozillaIntegrator was installed by WA not FF/Mozilla.

Like the 'reputable Tech' probably did with your money ...

WA never stopped working, you had an error message from paid software that you could have checked on your ISP's site - and got multiple 404's like I did - or via email.

Those registry keys were empty - if your WA software had been rewritten in the last few years, it would have ignored them and not shown the error message or, perhaps, asked if you would like to uninstall the WA Mozilla Integration feature. The "Tech" probably just uninstalled/reinstalled your WA.

  38. TeeCee

    TeeCee MajorGeek

You can slice and dice it any way you like it satrow, the end result is still the same... You and Dumluc will continue to back each other up, so have a good time... I am not the only one who seen the obvious..

I will take your response as an insult also, so now we are even..... The WA was NOT working as I stated... I also told you what had to be done, and still, you say those entries were empty? :confused I was there, I sat right there and watched the Tech, and no, he didn't take my $$$, he had to manually remove those entries to re-install the WA.. The WA was no longer in IE, so therefore, not working, not functioning...

What part was so confusing to you? Were you there? No. did you speak with the Tech? again, no... I rest my case.:major

  39. satrow

    satrow Major Geek Extraordinaire

MozillaIntegrator CANNOT work without Mozilla/FF ... period.

    WA worked fine.
Did YOU go back to your ISP to tell them that their software that you pay for didn't uninstall as they had suggested?

Please, don't shoot the messengers ...

I don't really understand what your problem is anymore, but if you deleted the web accelerator improperly and are trying to use firefox:

    Check in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Extensions.

There should be a few folders there that have a combination of letters and numbers "{9d6....}" .

Delete those. They're you're global extensions for firefox.

Additional registry keys for the web accelerator should be in:

    HKLM\Software\Slipstream and
    HKCU\Software\Slipstream

    **********************

Your web accelerator integrates with both IE and Firefox when it is installed. It integrates with IE by registering Toolband.dll. It integrates with firefox by adding a couple of extensions to the GLOBAL firefox extension folder in C:\Program Files\Firefox\extensions. Uninstalling Firefox without uninstalling the web accelerator is fine. If you uninstall the WA properly, it should delete the firefox extensions and unregister the IE dll, along with unregistering a bunch of other DLLs. Considering it modifies your lsp to make email and ftp acceleration work, you really need to make sure that you do a clean uninstall of the software.
