Firefox Tabs Issue

My desktop computer running Windows 7 HP (x64) SP1 has two user accounts. One (mine) has administrator rights, the other doesn't. In both accounts Mozilla Firefox (version 13) is the default browser.

In my account when I open Firefox it opens properly to my chosen homepage. In the other account when you open Firefox, the chosen homepage opens correctly but another tab always opens too. This tab has the name "Mozilla Firefox Web Browser - Down ...". It provides the option to download the latest beta version of Firefox.

I don't suspect it being harmful, it's just annoying. The same tab opens when you click on the 'Home' button. I've gone through Firefox's Options but cannot discover anyway to stop it. This does not happen when I open Firefox in my user account.

Any suggestions as to why or how this is happening? How can I prevent this from happening?

 

When you select help>about, does it say release or beta channel under the update button.

 

It says release update channel.

 

Are you sure your auto updates on firefox are checked or unchecked these will send you pm's in firefox.

 

In options under the General tab it shows the home page links. Is there more than one address shown? If there is, clear out the other page link. If that does not work set the home page to default. Close firefox, then open up options and set the home page to what you use.
