I'm a big fan of FireFox Open Source Browsers and I wanted a place for all FF users to exchange information.

I tend to use their developing builds and currently using Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 3 as my main (only really) browser. I love this build. It is rock solid, very fast, multiple tabbed and secure. I've had absolutely no problems with it and look forward to FF 3 Beta 4 in about a week. They expect to have the 'final' version of 3 within a month of that. I can't wait! To get the latest Firefox beta, just go to the 'Developer Center' from the Firefox site. There will be a download link there for the latest Beta. It's all good!

I've used and tested many other Browsers, but Firefox is excellent. They seem very quick to correct errors automatically, which is very reassuring. Opera was very fast for a while, but have since seem to have fallen off. Flock is another open source browser that just came out, so I am looking at it as well (they say they use the Firefox engine, I'm assuming they mean the Gecko 1.9 build). I can't seem to pull myself away from Firefox long enough to go over it.

I welcome any Firefox browser related content and experiences you folks may have! :)

Actually, Flock has been out for a while. They aren't moving to gecko 1.9 until FF3 is final.

Not sure how I feel about FF anymore. the 2.x branch was garbage, and the FF3 branch thus far has some horrible memory leaks. Im now using the latest nightly, so we will see how that goes. So far, it hasnt been much faster than IE7 for me.

I also enjoy the Protected Mode of IE7...that is hard for me to pass up.

FF 1.x and 2.x vs. IE6: FF wins by a huge margin.
FF 3.x vs. IE7: Close competition so far.
FF 3.x vs. IE8: Can't wait to see that one.

Not so sure about the memory leaks. :) FF is only using 186 megs of ram. Which isn't really all that much, when one has 6 gigs of ram. ;) (soon to be 8).

Adrynalyn and theefool, I run FF 3 Beta 3 all day with 10-20 tabs open with no problem, no crashes. Takes between 80-100Mg of RAM. Adrynalyn, the resource leaks are mostly plugged, FF plugged 350 from Beta 2 to Beta 3. We'll see in about five days what Beta 4 does according to the developer notes. Like I said, I use FF 3 Beta 3 as my main right now, even though I have IE7 (huge security holes). AFAIK, the Flock I got (was informed) last week uses "some components of FF", so I assumed it was the Gecko 1.9 engine. I'll have to go over it much closer. Flock sounds interesting (the new one), but I have not had time to go over it. On a personal note, how have you been Adrian? The wife says hello. :wave

I like Firefox because it supports Ai Roboform, the excellent password manager and form filler. And firefox has many addons.
Firefox take less memory than IE.

That hasn't been true for quite some time.

I use the nightlys & have been impressed with the JS improvements during the last several weeks ; along with some JPEG tweaks. Now, it smokes IE7 on JS tests. If, JS speed is your thing & you're using Windows- head into the 3rd party builds section @ mozillazine & try Ted's PGO build....he's trying to "get it working" & "land it" for future nightlys.

I like the tabbed browsing & have my bookmarks toolbar filled with RSS feeds for easy surfing.

FireFox doesn't have to be ugly. I like this theme.

Depends on the OS too. Just checked again-- I can reliably show ~23mb usage on that same test across two Vista systems. XP appears to use double, or more.

Minefield's latest nightly shows 30mb. Thats a default installation.

The more you add, the more the ram usage, the more the bloat.

I know its extensible. My point was ootb, its fugly.

In the end, K-meleon smokes all of them in memory footprint.

I can agree with that. I sometimes use it and its pre-cacheing system.

Has anyone got the new Flock Browser and looked under the hood? It's been around a while I know, but the new release one has some FF features in it.
