Finally got Firefox downloaded on new computer. Gotta say it is faster.
What add ons or plug ins are essential...or fun to have?

I did notice when I go to download something, it wants me to put it on a disk, no other option is available. Any ideas on how to change that?

Maxthon is still built on a vulnerable POS.
    Its still a spyware magnet.

I like K-meleon better than Firefox, though.

I have a firefox extension question. In IE, when you select "New Window" from the "File" menu, you have two of the exact same windows. Both are at the same page, you can click back on both browsers and get to the same places. However in Firefox, when you click new window, it opens up a complely new one. Basically you start all over. It takes you to your home page and you cant go back. I thought there would have been an extension that you could download for this, but I couldnt find one. Anyone know of one or have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It uses the Internet Explorer engine and has all the security flaws of IE, it just adds more features and a nicer interface. If you want to get away from iE's security holes, you have to get away from IE. The only reason I keep it is it's the only way to get Windows Updates, for my regular browsing, I use FF. Whoops, I can see I wasn't the first to notice this.

I only keep IE for updates as well but I always get this:
I've followed those step (auto update is enabled and running) yet I still get this message and just can't get any windows updates. I've also checked those links and still no luck. Firefox is the main browser I use, any ideas?

So far I've installed only two extensions: Adblock and Mouse Gestures. FF is noticeably faster than Opera.

    You both are mistaken...
Yes, Maxthon uses the IE engine to render web pages, but it's much more secure than plain IE.

1.) In it's options, under Download Controls, you have more settings that can be enabled or disabled... depending on your preferences and/or for security reasons (ie. javascript, java applets, ActiveX, etc.)

2.) Maxthon also incorporates an ActiveX Blocker. This blocker catches any ActiveX control that try to download, before it even starts, and gives the user the option to either stop it, accept it, or block it and add it to a Black list.
It's Popup filter/blocker and Content Filter can also be used to block "nasties"...

3.) Maxthon's sole developer, Bloodchen, patches Maxthon's IE exploits much faster than Microsoft patches IE... with an extremely high success rate. This means that the Maxthon user is safer when using Maxthon than when using IE. I find this quite commendable... not many developers would go this extra step, especially for a freeware/donationware browser.

    What I'm getting at is:

if you want to stick with IE
have as many (if not more) features as FireFox
have tons of great plugins and skins
have 99.9% of the Web render correctly
    and surf securely

then Maxthon is a great way to do it.

Now, I'm not bashing FireFox, I'm just trying to set the record straight.

Too many anti-microsoft, pro-FireFox users are spreading disinformation... and I feel that this needs to be rectified...

    To each their own.

I disagree with you, of course.

Alot of spyware doesn't require vulnerabilities to install/hijack/whatever. Merely a browser that it cna latch onto. Enter IE and the browsers built upon it.

And I did not spread any disinformation.

Its not a stand alone browser, hence its built upon IE.

    Example:

I have an internal site I use to log into Microsoft's internal network. It will not accept ANY browser except IE, and *gasp* Maxthon. It doesn't just use IE to render (EDIT) that I can see.

Now before you retort, its not a browser identification issue. I've used FF, and Opera and changed it to read as IE.

The site will still not work.
