firefox

I have a new puter, I have downloaded mozilla firefox 1.6 but am unable to use it as a window tells me "can not find firefox" the startpage opens, it becomes my homepage by default and looks and acts like it should but it does not. I had firefox installed on my old machine no problems. I have Belarc's profile installed, tell me what info you need and I will post it. thanx in advance for help rendered.

 

Possibly a bad install. Uninstall it then reinstall it.

 

I have installed & uninstalled many times and from several scources on the web, always the same. every indication is that the install is error free, but it will not behave as a browser.

 

Maybe you need to remove the remnants of your first bad install.

Uninstall Firefox, then delete the Mozilla Firefox installation folder in C:\ Program Files. Also delete the Firefox Profiles folder, instructions for finding that are here:

Couldn't hurt to clean the Firefox entries out of the registry, either manually or by running a registry cleaner or two. Then try installing Firefox again.

 

To get rid of your profile just delete

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

 

Well all I followed your recommendations except for the registry cleaner (do not know what that is) tried several times to reinstall from download with the same results. it seems to be clashing with IE. I put in thunderbird from a download and it works well, something does not want Firefox in this stupid puter LOL thanx for your input.

What happen when you:

Click start...

Then click run:

the type in:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" (use the quotes....also, this is the default location)

What happens?


On a side note it is 1.06 (which is the official "stable" release)

 

Have you tried to open FF. in its safe mode? Go to start-> all programs ->Mozilla FF->safe mode.
