This is my problem: lately I have noticed a slowdown in opening web browser pages, either from IE or Firefox. I downloaded Process Explorer, and noticed that there's an application, TrueVectoreService, that eats up to 50% of my cpu. That happens once every 10/20 seconds, it is an application that runs with Zone Alarm firewall (I have the free version running). In my first post in the welcome section Tim sent me a thread with a list of candidate firewalls, and the first two he suggests are Online Armor personal firewall and Comodo, both as free versions. Following are my pc specs:

    OS: Windows XP Home edition
    CPU: E8400
    RAM: 4GB DDR2-PC800
Video card: XFX Nvidia GE Force 8800 GT
    Soundcard Soundblaster XF1 Extreme

    Antivirus: Avira free version
    Firewall: Zonealarm free version
Spyware: Spyware Doctor free, Superantispyware free, Spywareblaster free, Spybot free.
    Antirootkit: Sophos Antirootkit free

It is a pc I assembled myself a few weeks ago, so as far as pc software for protection I am in a learning process.

This TrueVectoreService is really getting on my nerves, just a resource hog, even when I am not running nothing else besides a web browser, like now. I don't even go into porn sites, so it's not like my firewall has to detect possible problems every minute.

Would Armorpersonal firewall or Comodo be a better choice? Maybe Zonealarm is havier on my pc than I thought. Also, maybe I am running too many spyware products, besides, being free versions, I don't have a real time protection. Pardon me for writing so much, I just would like to clear things up a little, by hearing from somenone who's got more knowlegde than I have.

    My guess is I need:

    1 antivirus
    1 firewall
1 real time antispyware and one free

    but maybe I am wrong.

I really appreciate any help and insight I can get. Waiting for replies, thanks everyone

    Enrico

Avira is real time protection and you are not running too many anti-spyware programs ( although I would suggest removing Spyware Doctor if it is the free version). But what you stated is right ---> one anti-virus, one firewall, one realtime anti-spyware and a back up scanner (superanti-spyware and or malwarebytes).

As to your firewall, may people dislike ZoneAlarm for the reasons you give....and any of the ones that Tim suggested, as well as PCTools Firewall might be better for you. It is a personal choice as some of those are easier to configure than others.
