    Hi.
    Im fairly new to computing. I have a broadband setup with AOL (ADSL). I just have the one computer- no home network and Im not file sharing with other computers as yet.
    Theres two applications I have blocked in my Firewall and Im unsure as to whether Im doing the right thing by blocking them.
    One is "Web Trap" (webtrap.exe) and the other is "DirectX" (DXDIAG.EXE).
    Id be obliged for for any advice offered.

    Thanks.

    It is hard to say many times if the files are legitimate files it depends on what is that you are doing with your computer Internet wise.

    The best thing to do is to deny it one time (I.e. Not to turn it into a Rule), and Google for the name of the file.

    Make a decision according to what you read and need and apply it as a rule next time when it comes.

    :sun;

    Hi! Googling webtrap came up with this Part of PC-Cillin anti-virus software. Checks web-sites for malicious Java and ActiveX elements in a similar way to McAfee WebScanX. A few users find it infuriating

    The Dxdiag.exe could be a trojan. If it is located in \Windows\System32\Directx\DxDiag.exe it is a trojan. Otherwise it is part of directx. Which is used for games.

    Hi Dawnpatrol.
    As a result of your info Ive checked and your spot on. Its my PCcillin- A\Virus application (I wasint aware it contained Webtrap) and I have DxDiag-V9 installed although have left it blocked in my Firewall as I dont do games. Thats cleared my two problems. Thanks very much for your speedy help. Im very grateful

    You're welcome. It was a good idea for you to block them until you found out about them. It is better to be safe than sorry!
