I've just installed Adelphia cable broadband but when I try to sign on to AOL, I get an error message indicating that my Norton firewall is blocking it. I still can access AOL through dial-up. How do I resolve this so that I can use my cable broadband?

not exactly sure how Norton Firewall is setup but if it creates network connection profiles then make sure that the AOL exe has outbound rights for your broadband connection profile.

I use Zone Alarm, and have it set to "prompt" for everything. Anytime a program tries to punch through the firewall, I get a prompt asking to "accept" or "deny." Maybe in this case you can temporarily set up your Norton Firewall this way. After logging all your existing settings of course. That way, when you fire up IE, the missing AOL exe (blocking you cable internet) may be discovered, so you can add it to the firewall rules?
