Greetings from first time poseter - first time user.

Both of my Win 98 SE computers are running NAV and ZA behind a netgear DG834 wireles router. Both computers will not shut down properly. When I disable ZA at startup, shutdown seems to work OK.

I was recommended to uninstall ZA and install Outpost as the firewall instead. I have been using ZA for a long time and am fairly comfortable with it. Is there a way to resolve the shutdown issue without scrapping ZA?

    Many thanks.

Heh, I think you're fairly luck, as every time I've tried to use ZA on a 9x machine, it wouldn't boot, let alone shutdown properly. I've stuck with Outpost on 9x myself for awhile.

But, since you've had luck with it in the past, that's probably irrelevant. There should be a way around your problem. Please elaborate on your problem. Does your machine simply hang on shutdown, or does it spit out error messages, or what?

Both Win 98 computers are not shutting down properly. Most of the time I have to press the power button to shut them down and usually get an error message when trying to shut down - blue screen with this message:

A fatal exception hs occurred at 0028: 00000002. The current application will be terminated. Press any key to terminate the current application. Press cntrl alt delete again to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applications. Press any key to continue.

But of course when I press any key, same message comes up. Sometimes, pressing a key brings up the Windows is shutting down screen, but then it freezes and I have to press the on/off button to shut down and reboot.

Usually, but not always, on reboot, computers go into scandisk first, and the whole process of booting up takes a much longer time than normal.

Is there a fix for this?

Someonje has suggested ditching ZA and trying Outpost, but I have been a long time user of ZA and am afraid of other issues with Outpost or another firewall. I would like to know if we can fix ZA to shut down properly, or should I uninstall an try Outpost. (Both the ZA and Outpost free editions is what I use/would use).

    Thank you.
