Ok I am doing a process of elimination to try and solve my issues.(more of an annoyance then an issue) I've been to Malware and for these questions I was referred here. So if anyone can enlighten me on these issues please do so.

    Thanks

Are you sure this wasn't the router trying to get out? The router needs internet access, otherwise none of your computers will get out since the router handles the traffic.

The router includes a hardware firewall so it is probably safe to let the software firewall on your computer to temporarily allow things.

As far as IE icons. I always remove from my desktops - these are only shortcuts to the actaul program. If you need IE, it will be listed in all programs and you can run it from there.

    As I said
The router is not connected to the pc. I have the ethernet running from the cable modem to the pc directly.

    Have any ideas on the
When I go into properties it doesn't show that it's a short cut. windowsxp-kb.JPG

ok I read that. Thanks. Just out of curiosity why would it have been put on my desk top and could Microsoft have picked up on the fact that my CD-ROM isn't functioning properly? It reads, runs, and burns but I have to tell it by way of the "Run" box in start up when there is a disk in. (The CD/DVD drive is not on my priority list at this moment)
    Thank You both

MS has enough pushing the windows, office and security essentials updates. I doubt MS notices the state of your hardware; when it scans, it scans for software.

Thanks plodr. I kinda thought so and I'm not a tech either but have heard some crazy things happening to computers that is "not suppose to happen" Just making sure this wasn't one of those.
