Firewall recommendation?

Well after me recent run in with Norton and having to reinstall windows, Im not going to reinstall it. Im looking for a good or decent firewall that I can control what ports go where. I want to control incoming and outgoing.

Norton stopped a few programs from sending out data and I was happy with that. Windows has lots of security problems and I like taking the extra step, I have lots of pictures and stuff ive taken from vacation stored on here (yes I have a back up )

If soneyone knows of any good Software Firewalls I would appreciate a recommendation. I prefer opensource projects if anyone knows any.

I use a few
First is router (hardware firewall) stealth mode

Second software free one (zone alarm run on three rigs)

I also use McAfee 7.0 on another rig and 8.0 on another, most around here wont reccomend Mcafee, I just like it, been using for long time, not free, is also antivirus.

There has been many post's on firewall's you should do a search!

 

I know all about hardware firewalls, I got a Cisco pix sitting on the table next to me Im gonna work on someday Im going through a router I forgot to mention but that does not stop everything and stops nothing from going out. I was gonna get zonealarm but I figured I'd ask what other people have luck with, thats all.

 

I used zone alarm firewall but when i have it running in the background and playing ut2004 < goes from 80 ping to 200 << normally my ping is around 64. Use outpost free << its all good stays at 64 and blocks everything!!! Except the programs I allow it pass through.
