    Hi,
on my pc I installed (last year)- 1 avast antivirus; 2 spamfighter; 3 comodo boclean and so far I have had no problems. However, I've just realized that I don't have a firewall. Do you think this is necessary when I have the boclean anti - malware; does this act like a firewall? If it doesn't and I need to add a firewall should I uninstall the boclean so the firewalls job is not replicated? As you may have noticed all the programs I'm running are free and if I need a firewall I was thinking of the free comodo one - is this ok?

    Thanks in anticipation

    Welcome to Major Geeks, gazza10!

Yes, you should install a two-way firewall.

Click <this link> for some recommendations.

NOTE: There have been some reports of difficulties un-installing Comodo's Fireware Pro, but that's what I use and like.

    Hi Dr Moriarty,
thanks very much for your speedy reply. I am about to install the comodo pro firewall, but do you think that I should scan my computer to see if anything nasty has got through in the last year since I have been unprotected? If so, could you recommend something that will scan and eliminate any problems?

    Thanks again

You're Welcome! Here's what I use with great results.

*Note: Please read the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide for the program use instructions.

** I would keep all but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware after using them. Update a-squared & SUPERAntiSpyware regularly!

    Hi Dr Moriarty,
thanks again for your very helpful reply. I've done everything you recommended and there was some malware on my pc, mainly tracker cookies, but they're all gone now! One final question if you don't mind - do you think I should uninstall comodo boclean now I have comodo firewall pro (and the other things you mentioned); also should I leave superanti spyware on my pc - will it slow things down.
In response to Mada Milty - yes my, windows firewall is disabled, but thanks for the input, and thanks to Mark Trent too!

    Hi, gazza10-

Yes, definitely keep Comodo BOClean as your real-time malware blocker. If you installed the SUPERAntiSpyware Free version, it is a scanner only and doesn't slow your system - it runs "On Demand" only.

    You should be well protected!

    One other thing, gazza-

I wanted to say that there are some good threads detailing the workings of Comodo Firewall Pro -- not knowing if you installed the Advanced or Standard configuration. If you went Advanced don't be intimidated by all the settings options--- you'll get comfortable with it and soon have it "trained".

    Thanks again Dr M,
when installing, I ticked the box for firewall with 'defence+' and presumably this is what you call 'advanced' configuration - it does seem to be doing a lot of learning! I downloaded the 32 bit setup which I assumed would be the correct one for my pc with XP with SP2, I'm not sure?? Also when I tried to download the 32 bit upgrade patch it said it was incompatible and aborted. Hope you can advise - otherwise it seems to be working ok, but then you'd only really know this after a period of time I suppose.

    Thanks for that info,
I have just tried to install updates from within the prog and it said none was available, so presumably I am fully up to date etc? Thanks for the tip about turning the baloon off!

    Best wishes
