Firewalled connection?

I've been attempting to get both a new cable modem and a new wireless router working. I'm not a networking dummy. I'm a networking sub-chimpanzee, judging from the success I've had with it for the last 20 years or so.

I used the Linksys CD successfully to set the WRT54GL up via cable connection (per instructions). After hours in the 5th ring of Dante's inferno, at this moment I have this laptop working on wire and my other laptop (T42) working wireless. (That cost me the sacrifice of 20 virgins.)

I'll start with what may or may not be a simple question. In "Network connections" where it lists something as connected or not, what does "-firewalled" mean?

Part of Dante's contribution has been fighting off ZoneAlarm in various ways. It seems to have a way of restarting itself when I have shut it off completely. And every now and then it butts it's big ugly nose in with a dialog about a "New LAN" or some appellation to that effect and wanting - forcing - me to respond in some way. If someone can tell me how to make that thing butt out I'd be eternally grateful.

BUT! When I first saw "-firewalled" after (both) the connection entries I happened to have ZA turned completely off. So I'm wondering if that has anything to do with a firewall hanging around in the dark recesses of the WRT54GL. What is it?

Maybe someone can help me put the T60 from wire into Wireless later? As of now, when I try to enable it it cycles endlessly between "Not connected" and "Acquiring network address," much to my amazement but not amusement. (When I first installed the router it latched onto the internet via wireless right off.)

Windows itself has a firewall abit it being pretty limited, probably thats whats showing up as firewalled on your lan adapter.

Thanks. I have _always_ kept (and now have) Windows Firewall turned off. Could it be poking it's nose in anyway?
