Hi all, newbie here so here goes.......... Today i had a wrestling match with my previously installed fire wall. Yes Zone labs finest, version 4 is it? It locked me out from going online, maybe it was doing its job but frustrating all the same. Went through the logfile/oldlog routine and restarting several times but no go . So deleted every trace of it and stood there with bloodied axe panting at my butchery. So, i could reinstall it but am a bit reluctant as have had lockouts before and appreciate its looking after our interests, but it was one lockout too many. Can anyone advise wether to perciviere or an alternative. Regards Wild.:)

you most likely know more about this than i but i have used zone labs, zone alarm before, and this may not be very helpfull.

i was useing zone alarm for some time and liked it very much, but one day all of sudden in locked me from going online, it took a while to even figure out it was zone alarm that was doing it. (i was useing the free version/not pro) and here is what i found out. after talking to many of the tech people at my ISP, zone alarm had put parts of itself into my registry, (an area i dare not jack with) enough parts so that even after i uninstalled it i still couldn't get online. my ISP says they have had lots of trouble with zone alarm doing that to people, and none of them (the tech guys) liked it at all. told me i was testing a beta version for zone labs orsomething, anyways, i backed up vital iinfo on my puter and reinstalled XP, that solved it. but nothing else would. you may not have the same situation that i did, but it does sound like what happened to me. if you know much about your registry or know someone that does, you can remove everything zone alarm related from there and that may fix it. anyways, that is what i know, sorry if it is not helpfull but i am the only to respond to you so far so ...... better than every one elses posts :)

    Zone Alarm

Hi green, well i`m not alone then? lol. Thanks for answering.
Been looking at other sites and it does seem like the free download version does lock out occasionally. At mo i have no firewall at all. Yes stupid i know but hope to install in mo. Was hoping for an alternative to zone lab but none yet .
Had a root around registry and deleted the last, hopefully of the Zone labs finest.
Hey check out the thread on reg cleaners. I just downed "Reg Supreme" and found 300 dead keys and old logs. Bagged `em up and chucked `em out. lol.
    Cheers Wild.

My guess, Wild, is that if you've used Add-Remove to uninstall ZA, deleted the whole ZA folder to get leftovers, and you've run RegSupreme and let it wipe the trash (esp. the ZA trash), you're GO for re-installing ZA. It's a great wall, IMO, and I've never had a problem with it through several versions. Now that you've got a proper reg cleaner (remember to pay for it before the trial expires!), the problem shouldn't arise again.

    G'Luck!

Just a word of advice... be careful when using any kind of registry cleaner. While most are smart enough to back-up the things they delete, and only delete things that are definately not vital to the workings of your system, I have experienced a nasty problem with registry cleaners in the past.

To make a long story short, the registry cleaner I used must have deleted something that was vital to my system, because I ended up having to reinstall the operating system. This has only happened to me once, and it wasn't even my computer  but just be advised and always back-up anything you delete or play with in the registry.

    Just another bit of advice...
I had great difficulties trying to upgrade ZA Pro to version 4.
I had to uninstall and then manualy delete every remaining evidence of previous version, namely all ZA related files and registry entries. Now it works fine again.

NOW we're GETTING somewhere! I didn't know that page was there. Good shot, man! Might hold the answers.
