    Good evening,

I went through may steps to try and remove spyware and viruses from my computer, and in those steps I installed alot of virus removal/detection programs, etc. Anyways, I am now having problems with Firewalls preventing access to java applications online. When I click on a Java application, it just gives me the little box in the upper left hand corner. Inside the box are 3 shapes: 1 triangle, 1 square, and 1 circle. After consulting the website's support, they tell me it is a firewall application preventing access. I tried downloading the new drivers from the http://java.sun download site, but that did not help, which is what indicated to the website that it was a firewall preventing me from viewing the java application.

Long story short, my question would be how I find out what firewall applications are currently running on my computer, and how to I shut down the ones that I don't need.

    Thank you for your help!

According to your other thread you HJT log shows that you are using ZoneAlarm.

Do not shut down your firewall? You may just have something configured wrong. The Software Forum may be a better place to discuss this configuration issue (if that's what the problem is).

Ok, are you able to tranfer this thread over to the Software Forum, or should I just open a new thread?

Ok, not certain if this is already in the Software forum or not, but here is my issue (copied from post below):

I know not to turn off my Firewall now (using ZoneAlarm) and I have made sure my Windows Firewall is turned off, but I still cannot access java files. Also, when I restart/shut down my computer, I get a number of error messages (not always the same ones for some reason). Such errors include:
'Ending Program' Nonresponsive Program for i.e. "tfswctrl.exe", "tphkmgr", "AOLDIAL.exe", "asp.exe".
I have also received an error message that goes something like 'shellmon.exe' - "DLL initialization failed".

I don't know if these errors have to do with the same problem I am having accessing java applications, but just wanted to add all of the information I could right now!

And if you need my computer information, it is posted below. Thank you in advance!

Are you using Internet Explorer? If so you may have your privacy settings too high. If you have already checked that, it sounds like ZA may be blocking that type of traffic, but I used ZA for years and never had it block stuff unless you changed settings?

Yes, I've modified ZoneAlarm settings. I don't remember everything I've changed. And yes, I'm using IE. But I didn't change privacy settings until trying to do all of the remove Malware/Spyware steps in the Spyware support forum(s). Anyways, what would you reccomend? Would restoring to default settings on either or both IE and ZA, then modifying Privacy settings based on you're reccomendations, be a possible solution?

    Thank you!

I don't know about solution, but it's worth a try and can't hurt anything :) My privacy set to medium, sometimes I have to click a yellow bar at top of window to get certain items, PITA, but helps fight the malware  Post back with result

Yeah, I tried restoring defaults, and I still cannot access the java applications I am trying. Any other suggestions (possibly another firewall active on my system, or something I am missing?). Before I did all of the Malware removal steps in the Spyware Forum I was able to view the java application fine, and now I solved most of my spyware/malware problems, and I can't access the java! Any suggestions?

Just a suggestion. Next time you logoff the net, maybe un-install ZA and then re-install it using the standard defaults. Don't do it while connected to the net. Who knows, computers are funny beasts. bazza

Did you restart your PC after making changes? Have you checked to see if you have another firewall?, you're not suppose to run more than 1 firewall or Anti Virus!
