Firewalls

I recently installed Sygate Firewall on my moms computer. How can I tell if she has any other firewalls installed. I looked in the add remove but didn't see anything that said "Firewall". I also uninstalled NAV which I would think had a firewall. Shes running Win98SE. I don't know if this came with one or not???? Any help would be appreciated

If Norton AV has firewall or not depends a lot on what version of norton it is. The older versions are with a stand alone firewall, the firewall icon was a round globe in the system tray. It is only norton 2004 I think (damn it is getting hard to remember lol) and norton internet security (2005) that has the combination of firewall and AV.

When the computer is running, look in the system tray what icons you have there. If you have another firewall installed, you should see it there.

Win 98 SE did not come with firewall. I think the first windows to come with firewall was xp (could be wrong on that, as I haven't tried ME...).

 

ok I'm pretty sure she doesn't have icons in the sytem tray that are firewalls. If norton had one I uninstalled it and I know she never installed anything herself. If Win98 didn't come with one she probably didn't have one.(scary)

Lol then she probably didn't!

You might want to run a scan with a program like Ad-Aware to make sure she doesn't have some bad thing on the comp that slows it down (or worse).

 

I have been. Doing a cleanup with BJ in the spyware forum . Just about finished......I think
