    Which do you use?
Apparently ZA free is good, but not great.
    It failed this test http://tooleaky.zensoft.com/
Tons of paid versions out there.
    What do you guys recommend?use?
    Currently using ZA-free.

Don't go by what those programs state jak3y, due to they are meant to sell other products. A firewall will always test as failure with these so called programs. ZoneAlarm is a very good firewall.

Apparently ALL software firewalls fail this test.

Shields Up! is an excellent way to see how well a particular firewall is protecting your ports and Leaktest is a small application to see how good your firewall is at protecting programs from accessing the internet without your permission. These are both provided free by Steve Gibson, a noted internet security expert.someone.

Those tests pray on the fact that when your firewall alerts you to an app wanting outgoing access your fool enough to click YES and allow it access ( do this and it will fail as you as user have allowed it access ).... ZA on the PC i'm on at at the time of this post has ZA on it and.. I click the tooleaky exe... up popped ZA to alert me to a new app wanting outgoing access I click DENY as you should if you dont know what the app is and received this message ( note the screenshot.. GRC or SGs site is not down )

so draw your own conclusions, but ZA is still a good firewall.

Have you got a url for that "mouth in foot" incident? I'm curious.

As far as that tooleaky site, I have never read so much rubbish in my life.

That link is even more stupid than the tooleaky one.

I fail to see where anyone put their foot in their mouth, apart from a few forum users, which you come to expect.

Rather than someone just saying something, I want facts and proof that I can correlate, not someones opion.

Where are the facts and proof?

    Yeah, I read both.

I'm still waiting for facts that disprove what Gibson says, or where he put his foot in it as claimed. (He may be somewhat alarmist, but that doesn't mean it's not factual)

    Dime-a-dozen websites aren't proof.

You can find something that's not complimentary, about anyone, if you look hard enough.

Actually DSLReports is not a dime a dozen website, and two of the people in that particular thread are top experts in computer security, so I would believe them before believing Gibson.

I don't care if they are right, or if they are security experts. (Which two are, and what are their credentials etc?)

Where is the proof? Not hearsay, but solid proof?

    Microsoft Disputes WMF Backdoor Claim

    January 13, 2006, 8:08 PM

Microsoft has directly responded to accusations by security researcher Steve Gibson who claimed the company intentionally left the Windows Meta File vulnerability open as some kind of "backdoor." The company says the function in question exists due to legacy code, not some nefarious intent.
"This was not a mistake. This is not buggy code. This was put into Windows by someone," Gibson said on his podcast called Security Now. "I believe that some very clever and industrious hacker figured this out, started using it and Microsoft was caught off guard and thought: Whoops, we've got to close this backdoor down."

That still doesn't explain how he put his foot in it.

Micro$$oft may dispute that the WMF vulnerability was intentional, and Gibson can be a bit alarmist as I stated, but where was Micro$$oft and DSL Reports before Gibson commented on it or it was widely known? Nowhere!

    As I said, I need proof, like I'm a 5 YR old, as in 2+2 is 4.

Not Micro$$oft denying their code is buggy or sloppy. We all know that it is.

I'm more than happy to accept things, and I don't owe Gibson anything, but show me conclusive proof instead of Micro$$oft denials and google searches.

Anyway, if you have this, and it's obvious you don't, PM me rather than going off topic. I won't be replying on this subject here again.
