I've noticed that some of the freeware firewalls you have listed are quite obviously out of date (Sygate is from 2004 and Outpost is from 2003 for example). Shouldn't the outdated firewalls be removed since they would not provide adequate protection? Besides, there are plenty of other freeware firewalls on your site that people could choose from.

    Just thought I'd ask.

Several of the older members, myself included, still use some of these "out dated" firewalls, prefer them, and have no problems in using them and the support that they provide. Unless a new threat is created that uses a port that isn't blocked by these apps, then I see no need to change!:)

What evidence do you have that these firewalls are ineffective?

IMO that Sygate is one of the best Firewalls, Free or otherwise:p

Who are You to request it or Anything else to be removed?

I'd like to know what Firewall you think is better & why?
Post one free & one paid, then tell me why it's better than my favorite one.

Just because an app is 2-3 years old, makes it "out dated?" Just because an application hasn't been updated in over a year does not imply that it is inadequte, ineffective, or out-of-date.

This burning desire to have the latest and greatest has led to a feverish annual release cycle of software; that, quite frankly, has turned many major software titles in to bloated resource hogs.

The old adage, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it." Comes to mind.

Yes, Sygate Personal Firewall was dicountinued by Symantec right after their aquisition of Sygate. It still gets the job done and until I find evidence, that there is a security flaw with the firewall, I will continue to use it personally.

Ooops Xymox your first post and me thinks you stepped on some toes, best to tread lightly, and ask questions instead of critiques on others choices. Then you'll find the residents extremely helpful.
