Firewire problems

I just built a new computer (for editing with Premiere Pro 1.5) for my friend, and everything was going swimmingly until I tried capturing some video via the 1394 port on the mobo. When I plug the camera in and open Premiere's Capture window, I can view the footage, but as soon as I start capturing, it grabs a few seconds and then fails. It doesn't crash, and I can keep capturing, but only a few seconds at a time.
