Firewire & USB 2.0 Problems

hi, i recently bought a usb 2.0 pci card so i can have usb 2.0, but it doesnt work, when i plug in a usb 2.0 device, my computer says "you have plugged in a high speed usb drive in a non hi speed usb port". Some people told me that my motherboard doesnt support it, i have a MSI 645E max on Windows XP pro and a P4 2.0ghz.. i couldnt get it to work so i thought id buy a firewire port, will that work on my motherboard? somebody please reply with some help, thanks in advance

 

Erm. Did you plug the device into the PCI slot and not the motherboard's USB ports?

More importantly, have you installed the drivers for that PCI card? If you didnt it would be detected as a generic USB 1.1 device, and therefore not run at full tilt.

 

actually it goes where the pci cards go, but it doesnt plug into a PCI slot, and u plug it in on the mothernoard on JUSB1, i did that but it didnt come with drivers so i can install it.

 

any other suggestions?

 

Well, that means its running off the motherboard's USB hub, which isnt USB 2.0. You need to get a card that plugs into the PCI slot. What you have at the moment is simply an extension slot, just the same as the sort you get on the front of computer cases.

Otherwise you're just using the USB 1.1 hub to connect a few extra ports, which wont get you the extra speed. You need the HUB to be USB 2.0 not the actual sockets.
