Hello guys, I have an Ipod with a firewire cable. I use to have a USB 2.0 cable but i lost it. I've been meaning to upgrade my USB port because it is of the slow variety, but now I am wondering if i should add a firewire port instead, or if i should install a combination of the two. Do you guys think it is worth it to install a firewire port as well? Am I better off just buying a USB cable for my ipod?

are my ports evan upgradeable? Thanks for all the help ive gotten before! (memory upgrae did wonders)

    Specs:

    running windows XP pro
    dell dimension 4100
    Pentium IIIE, 700 MHz (7x100)
128 Mb of RAM (Available slot)
    150+ Gb of hardrive space
I have 2 USB ports (slower kind)

You can't upgrade the ports on the motherboard but you can add a USB 2.0 card. I would suggest a combination firewire/USB 2.0 card. Firewire has faster transfer times but USB 2.0 is the much more prevalent connector.

Definately get a combination USB2.0/Firewire card. They are cheap, and the extra ports came in handy.

(If you only have 128MB of memory, some more would be beneficial)

In your specs you say you only have 128MB of RAM.

As for where to get a PCI card, which country are you in?

Don't worry about the memory then, you have enough.

As far as the card, if you want a cheap card with 2 external ports of each, HERE is one for $15.99.

    3 x USB 2.0 and 2 x Firewire.

If you want a good quality brand name, Belkin.

    wow...talk about a price range.

um, I dont necessarily like big brand names as long as the quality is reliable.

that one with multiple ports is very tempting. I could keep my scanner, game controller, and ipod connected at the same time. :)

The price is VERY reasonable . . . hehe. Do you think that it's a reliable option?

Any one of them will be fine and will have a warranty.
