First Look Kubuntu 07.04 Feisty Fawn

I "upgraded" the box to the next version of Kubuntu. I have crashed Edgy to a login screen, and this does not seem as unstable. Amazing for it is Alpha and supposedly unstable.

It broke somethings like Beryl and NVidia adapter. A websearch found a page with directions to repair those. Beryl is not completly repaired, but is workable. My Logitech MX1000 mouse snaps to the top of the screen, clearing the whole page and that has been annoying.

Another was the boot does not go smoothly anymore. ctrl-d when it hangs brought me to console login and startx brought me to the GUI.

I don't have wireless setup, but after I get the box stable again will test the KWirelessnetwork.

 

Feisty requires mdadm in that I have 5 virtual drives and 2 physical drives, it considers this a RAID.

I am researching this, and see the Beta was released today.

 

LVM in 07.07 is different. After trying for a week, I installed on another partition. (200GB drives are sweet!) I had problems with NVIDIA drivers (common) and did get it all set up even with Beryl.

The installer reconfigured LVM and grub perfectly.

 

wtf are you talking about nvidia driver problems, have you tried to get a ati card to work under linux. FTR i have never had an nvidia driver not install right the first time as long i as following the steps listed.

 

well it took quite a few attempts to configure this beast.

It was working great, and I updated the kernel midweek making my desktop login only a light blue screen and no way out except ALT_CTRL_BACKSPACE.

Tonight I updated to the NVIDIA drivers from the NVIDIA home page. Using propriety drivers instead of opensource does not bother me.
Except for Beryl, the Beta worked great.
