I'm having the same problem as the OP. My wife's laptop will not connect to TinyURL at all. It's running AVG anti-virus and the Windows Firewall only. I disabled all other anti-spy/anti-virus software and tried switching Firewalls to one of the recommended free downloads on this site, but have not figured it out.

I don't think it's AVG, as my desktop does not have the same problem.

I have gone through the steps for removing malware and basic cleanup as recommended on the FAQ threads, but I'm still not able to access TinyURL.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Andy

    Welcome to Majorgeeks.com :)

I have moved your post to it's own thread. We encourage members to always start their own threads with a new problem rather than ride on someone else's. Oftentimes the solution can be different depending on the computer spec, and it just gets plain confusing trying to sift through various sets of solutions for different people.

Have you tried disabling the firewall and then try connecting? Make sure you re-enable the firewall and AV back on after.

    Try 85.255.210.131
    and 195.66.135.131
Do you get a 404 not found or does the page load blank?

Have a look in the host file to be sure it is not blocked.

With the 85.xx link above I see a blank page with 'yes' and 195.xx link it shows test.

Here is what I see when I type in www.tinyurl.com:

    Failed to Connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.tinyurl.com.
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.
    * Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites? Check the computer's network connection.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing.

    I've tried the following configurations:
    1) AVG and Outpost firewall.
    2) AVG and Windows firewall.
    3) AVG and no firewall.
    4) no anti-virus and no firewall.

I've gone through Add/Remove menu over and over and cannot find any other spyware/ant-virus software except for Ad-Aware.

Well, my update post is still floating out there in "moderator approval land" but it looks like I fixed the problem somewhere along the way.

I think it was when I started disabling the Add-ons for IE, but I'm not sure how that would affect Firefox...

I disabled Spybot-SD IE Protection, Spybot - Search & Destroy Configuration, Diagnose Connection Problems..., and one named {CD67F990-D8E9-11D2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE}.

I'll try to figure out if one of those actually blocks it later (by turning them back on one by one) and report, but for now the wife wants her laptop back to look at all of the TinyURL links the girls at the Knot have!! :-D
