I am wanting to build my next system myself. I feel confident in the assembly of the parts, but I don't know the steps to take after the hardware is assembled.
Do I turn the new system on and set BIOS to boot from the DVD drive, load XP disc, and then restart?

You put the windows cd in whatever dirve you set to boot from, and watch the screen as it boots...it might ask you to hit any key to boot from cd...if so...do that and then windows setup will start loading, and just read everything and do what it ask!!

Do you know anything about partitioning a hard drive and formatting?? That is also involve in the setup and install of windows!! If not just ask!!

I installed a bigger HDD in the system I'm using now. I had to format and do a clean install of XP then. I guess I did not partition though just set up the drive as one partition. Is there a reason to partition a drive?
I just use the computer for INTERNET, photos, music, and movies, also home office. No gaming.
But I am wanting to build a new faster system for DVD viewing and burning.

The only reason you would want to make multiple partions, is dependent on how anal you are about organization!! For example...if you have a rather large drive, and you do alot of multimedia stuff...you might have a partition for all of your music files, and one for all of you movies, and one for all of your pictures, etc., etc.!!!! Basically, you take one drive and make it two, or three or four, or however many you want!!

But it sounds like you know how to atleast make the whole drive one big partition, so I would say you are on the right track!!
