This will be my first time building a computer from the ground on up. Since I knew I was going to be building a new computer about 6 months ago, I have been searching parts and reading reviews since that point. I think I finally have my parts picked out. I am a little leary about the case as I have seen great reviews on it and have heard about dust issues as well. I am not too worried about dust since I blow out my case and components at least once every two weeks.

I will be using an older Sata drive from my brother's computer so that is why you don't see a HDD. I will also be using my old DvD Burner and probably sound card. The sound card being a soundblaster Live! 24 bit. I'm not all that worried about having the best sound and I can always choose to use the on board sound as well.

Here are the parts and please let me know what you think...

Please keep in mind that I am at the very upper end of my budget for this rig. So any suggestions would need to stay under that $1000 cap. Also, I will be using Windows XP Home for now and I know that it only sees up to like 3.1 gigs of ram, but I figured at least when I upgrade to Vista next year, I will be ready for it with 4 gigs of ram.

Looks like a good setup. Here are a couple of things I would change. (Just my opinion)

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341001 Couple of bucks cheaper, and a few more watts. I avoid modular PSU's.

Motherboard (if you don't need RAID or multiple GPU's): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059 Much less $, good board.

Thermal Paste (I never use the stock stuff): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007

Have fun with the new 'puter! :cool

Thanks for the quick reply. I do plan on going the SLI root in a year or so. I however don't want to end up buying another motherboard when I do go that route. So the 680I would be a decent board in those circumstances?

I do have thermal paste in my cart on Newegg. I just didn't include it in the list above .

I will probably change to the other power supply.

The 680I looks like a nice motherboard. I wish I had gotten a SLI/Crossfire board, I have the Gigabyte in my link above. Guess I will have to get one of those dual core 3870 GPU cards this spring. :D
