    Hey,

I am looking for some insight about playing a tutorial-like video the first time a user logs onto the network... Server 2003... client-side is XP. After the user views this video it should not play at start up. Is there anyway to do this per user basis? This would not be once per PC but should happen wherever the user desires to log in.

    thanks ahead of time.

    Hi:wave not sure,

Perhaps a permissions based or even a user name login based "run once" or batch file at login, so if newbie would login with pswd+extra letter or different paswd it would point to the video and then a run / .exe it. Maybe even add to startup menu from msconfig in XP at least. if using different roaming or user profiles stored on the server you may even get the file to stream from there, providing of course it doesnt choke the bandwidth.

A pretty good free app for streaming video, although the interface is quite basic is called VLC media player, has a road cone for an icon. Plays everything I've thrown at it over the last year or two and streams to multiple sources although havent ventured into this part of it..yet.

Good luck with this one. Sorry wish I could be more help, sure there's better geeks out there than me to give you a more concise answer.:cool:wave
