First WU

I just sent in my first WU to the team. I have 2 computers working right now.

2500 AMD XP
512 mb

650Mhz P3
128 mb

I have 7 older computers (200mhz-400mhz range) I was wondering if it would be worth the effort to get them all running. I was also wondering if anyone knows anything about clustering. I would kind of like to get all of them working behind my 650mhz P3 (running windows XP) anyway sorry thing is probably a pretty newbie question.

To answer you question about the older machines, I have a couple of 500Mhz rigs that chug away in the lab. It takes about 10-12 days on average (sometimes a lot more) for one to finish a WU, but I haven't had any expire on those machines before they were finished.

I myself have thought about throwing a few socket 7's up running @ 200MHz or thereabouts and another running @300 or 333MHz all socket 7's.

one other p2 running @266 or 333MHz not sure since I haven't got around to looking at what I have.

My thoughts are to install minislack on all of them or some type of linux and use the non graphical version of FAH client w/switches -advmethods -verbosity 9

as the 1st. switch seems to download very small WU, but also very small pointage and the other switch just allows me to view added info FAH has to share.

were I on more advanced computers I would also add the switch -forceasm that is for an intel p3 or above possibly p2's not sure what the switch would be for an AMD proccessor.

Grats on the first WU. Always a great feeling to get started. If you can afford the electricity to run those boxes, they'll all contribute something useful. I would go with the no-nonsense text-only client to get the max out of the old hardware. All together they might be as fast as one P4 3.2 Ghz, but still, it's good to have them doing something worthwhile.
