Anyone know of any good guides online about fitting GFX cards for total beginners?

    Its a PCIe card.

    Thanks :)

its pretty easy, just stick it in. It usually takes some force but not too much. Just line it up in the slot then push STRAIGHT down. You may have to wiggle it a bit to get it fully seated.

Take note that "down" is if your case is on its side. :D

I'm guessing it's a x16 slot. First of all, make sure you know what slot you're putting it in. On one end you'll see a metal plate thing where all the stuff plugs in. In case you didn't figure it out, it faces out the back. :p One side of it should have a metal tab sticking out. That's the side that faces out.
As you're lining it up with the slot and pushing in, the screwhole in the metal should line up with a screwhole on a thin metal plate (you should see a bunch of other screws holding the other cards and whatnot on).
Keep the card lined up with the slot and make sure you press straight down. You should feel and hear a satisfying clunk, but it might take a little effort to get it in. Sometimes there's a plastic clip on the motherboard that the slot end needs to push into (like on mine) which makes it a little harder.
Once that's in, there should be a small square (6-pin?) plug hanging around in the case. There should be a similarly sized hole on the side of the card that this fits in. When that's plugged in, I think that's it. If your system makes more than one beep when starting up (IIRC two or three long and two short beeps), or more obviously nothing comes up on the monitor, you probably didn't press it in all the way, or a connector wasn't plugged in.

Hope this lengthy non-picture guide helps. :p

I've read where someone managed to get an AGP card into a PCIX video slot! So- as mentioned above, be sure you have the right card for the right slot!

Ok so i have got the card and, before fitting it it says to disable the integrated or give it a lower priority. Ive never used the BIOS but I have just found an option to enable or disable the integrated. Changed it and restarted, Black screen, windows loads however because i can hear it. Ive just turned the pc off and fitted the card in hope it will come on. No joy but the card is working fine fan going etc.

How can I reset the BIOS please?

Please help or my new PC is toast :(

Its all good now :) I sorted it but thanks for the reply :)

I used the jumper to reset the BIOS. Then I took my PC to a friends house and they sorted it out for me. Fitted the card and sorted the BIOS out correctly.

The graphics are top now on the PC. Its only a XFX 7600GT XXX, but for World of Warcraft it is excellent. 60fps (the limit for dual core on WoW atm apparently). And abserloutly no lag on my monitors full res with all the effects turned up full.

    WOOT :) :) :)
