I have some pictures from a digital camera that have become corrupted somehow. I think the pictures could be fixed b/c when I open the folder containing the pics, the thumbnails display the undamaged pics. After they load, the thumbnails refresh and display the corrupted files. The corrupted files show about 1/3 of the picture and then the rest is black or the image tiles the same part of the picture over and over.

Any recommendations on software (preferably free) that can fix the photos?

    Hi

Sadly while the thumbnail may look fine and the main image corrupted is due to the thumbnail not actually being the main image as when you take a digital image, the EXIF data thats captured holding the types of data like time taken, camera used, shutter speed etc it also saves a thumbnail with this data so that thumbnail image can look fine and the main image not.

Where are these images stored, are they still on Flash Media or only on Hard Drive?

You could try Irfanview as at times it can open corrupted jpegs and then once saved it recovers the data lost.

or if still on flash media try this http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/smart_recovery/info.htm?Language=1
