    Hello all,
I was instructed to post my issue here. After doing a read/run me, i was supposed to run an MBR check. It was unsuccessful. I was then instructed to create a recovery console cd (i have one installed already, but made a disk anyhow). I changed my boot order accordingly and when rebooting, it runs some files, then claims it is beginning to start window, but then i get a blue screen of death, ending with "pci.sys". I have transferred all data to a portable HDD, so i am not worried about losing any info. Let me know.

    XP Pro, SP3
    Thank You

It seems your recovery console CD is not loading properly. I don't see why you can't use the installed recovery console to run the fixmbr command. There should be no difference between using the two versions.

I would do that and then try to run the mbrcheck.exe in normal mode.

They can give it a try, sachs but for fixing MBR's we have found the way you are suggesting does not work. Worth a try though of course!

Do you get the BSOD when booting to safe mode?

I decided to run from recovery console. It asked if I wanted to start C:/windows or E:/windows...I chose E (although my standard and only drive i am aware of is c" my admin password did not work for e, so i restarted on c, used my password, it worked, i typed fixmbr, it warned me, I did it anyway, it said successful, i then restarted and ran mbr check, it said the code was detected and asked me to exit. I have posted the mbr check. am i out of the water.....or into the frying pan? Thank you all.
